This is an open challenge to all Canadians to find a better DVD-R media price. 99 cents CAN a disc. Cheaper in Large quantities of over 35. I don't know what brand it is(yet) but it has a silvertop and Blue! bottom. It's rated 1-4x, and is from Taiwan I haven't contacted them yet for samples. The pertinent info is below. They're located in Toronto. I don't know if they do mailorder. FIND me a cheaper price in Canada. That's the challenge. Hell, I'll settle for different media at the same price.

I don't think anyone will find cheaper prices in Canada. But price alone should not be your only criteria. Reliability should be more important.
For example, what value is there in a cheap DVD if it won't burn or read reliably because of an uneven dye layer? Or worse yet, what if the disc falls apart a couple of years down the road because it was assembled with inferior materials or adhesives - probably long after the opportunity to create a replacement disc has passed.
Price alone is not always an indication of quality either, but I would find out the brand and check the DVD media forum before purchasing any quantity of 99 cent discs. -

Yes, I agree. But my post was solely based on price, and finding the least expensive media in the country. I may have not brought up reliability issues, but let's just stick with cost as the main issue for this one thread! I think It's a given that cheap media and long term quality may not go well together. I've had the problems you stated above on much more expensive discs. Including a few Riteks, and even worse on cheap crap horrible Longtens. Yet I've never had a problem with cheapo Princos. Much of it depends on the burner's firmware not just media. I always buy samples of DVD media I use first. All my past media forum posts urge others to do the same. -
hey ,
i know these arent as cheap$$$ as you were asking for BUT costco , in canada have tdk +R branded RICOHJPNr01's for 30$x15 spindle, they are very good , they also have tdk branded -r's which are ritekg04's i think, in a 15 pak spindle for the same price. the -r's are rated at 2x , and made in taiwan. These are the cheapest media prices i have found in any walk in stores in the montreal/laval area , including mostly/many various micro shops,
