Poor sound using Lite-On LVW5001?

Hi,

Ok, I just purchased the Lite-On LVW5001 DVD recorder and hooked it up to my Yahama RX-V2095 receiver. I also have Direct Tv. When I play a DVD in my DVDR the 5.1 sound and Svideo picture sound and look great. But, I have a standalone DVD changer for that purpose.

My problem is when I try to use it as a recorder; when I am watching show on DSS in Prologic sound it sounds great and picture is good, but when I switch my input to DVDR the sound only comes out of my center channel and the picture gets a little fuzzy. What am I doing wrong? I have my S-Video cables are hooked up correctly and so are my rca analog cables. All is run through my receiver.

Has anyone else noticed a difference in sound and picture quality when recording off of DVDR.

I think you would be better off connecting the sound via the optical or digital audio inputs/outputs if you're expecting 5.1 audio.

Hi,

I've hooked up my digital optical out so I get 5.1 sound.
What i've noticed is that my video and audio feed seem to be coming from my analog coaxial cable not my S video or analog rca cables. I switched source to "S In" but I get a black screen and no sound when I'm trying to view TV through the DVD recorder.

So you have a s-video cable going from the recorder to your TV right? Well if the recorder is like other recorders it will have three selectable inputs (my Panasonic has L1, L2, and L3) so you will have to select the correct line in. Also it's not a good idea to use more than one output line even though there may be three (composite, s-video, and component) so just use one output and don't connect anything to the unused outputs.

Also if you're inputing via coax then of course you just need to select the correct channel usually channel 3 or 4 in the USA. Finally I think some recorders may require a blank DVDR disc in the drive.
