  1. Is it possible to burn a dvd to a cd, instead of a dvd-r? If so, what would you suggest I do. I was given great suggestions on how to burn dvd to dvd-r, but cd's are cheaper to buy.
    Any advise?

  3. Look to the left under DVD Rip, there are guides for backing up DVDs to VCD/SVCD/SVCD and cDVD. Given that a DVDR holds 4.3GB and a CDR holds 800MB, most people choose to back up a DVD to 2 (or even 3) CDR discs.

It's possible to get very good quaility backups of most 2hr movies on 2 CDRs as xCVDs (MPEG2 352x480 ~1600kbit/s VBR encode w/ 128kbit/s audio).

  4. bhampton, I just recalled my last and best way to make VCDs from a DVD. Rip and decrypt with Claddvd.net, frameserve with DVD2AVI, convert to VCD with TMPGEnc, then burn with VCDEasy. Haven't done it for quite a while, I'm into DVDs now. I'm certain there's a guide here somewhere that uses that very method.
