  1. i've been searching all over and i can't find the solution to my problem. I have checked the compatibility list and it seems as though DVD-R's work fine, just like its supposed to. However using TDK media, using the same method some work and some get C 13:00 disk is dirty. I know that Sony is picky but people are getting it to work so i don't get what i could be doing wrong. I have tried just about every way to burn these it seems. I use DVD Decryptor, DVD2ONE if necessary and then burn with Nero or RecordNowMax4.5 With nero i have tried Video mode, UDF, UDF force compatibility, UDF/ISO, UDF/ISO force compatibilty... nothing seems to work consistantly. All DVD's are finalized, they work in other players and my PC...

    I read something for another Sony player pressing Title Clear Power to get into the service menu and recalibrate the laser. There is no Title button on my remote and i haven't found anything similar. Just wondering if there is a way to do this on this player.

    Is it possible to put a lens in from another player so its not so damn picky or would only Sony parts work, which all seem to be picky...

    As u eluded to in your post...Sony standalones are notorious for not playing all the formats they have printed on the front of the machine. Tho mine will play DVD discs I've burnt, it won't play vcd's, mp3's, or anything else it claims it will. They aren't good machines for testing recording success. I'm about ready to donate my $300 Sony to charity, then buy an $80 pioneer from WalMart.

    I have an DVP-CX870D. I did a bunch of testing and came up with a way that works 100% of the time for me. I add Jacket Pictures and DVD-Text to my discs, so I pretty much only use DVDr in my player.

    I buy these in 100 packs: http://www.allmediaoutlet.com/amo/p_proddetail.php?kitNbr=603

    I burn them at 2x and fill them up with xtra dummy files in the root when I burn them.

    I also noticed that the Eazy Play slot is alot more forgiving than the other slots. Not sure why this would be, seeing that the lazor is the same.

    I would not mess with the service menu, if it is not under warranty. Do not try to re-calibrate with a DVDr.

    @Bodene

    Too bad pioneer does not sell a 300 disc changer for $80. Now that would be a price cutter WalMart special!
    I mean it in the nicest way.

    thanks for replying. just wondering what you mean by making dummy files and if you could explain what method you use to decyrpt, shrink and burn your movies. are you saying that by making cd text and a jacket picture you are making it easier to read in the sony? how do you do that by the way, if you don't mind explaining...

  5. I don't know how to solve the problem. I just wanted to say that I have the Sony 400 disc changer and it pretty much plays anything I throw at it with the one exception of Memorex media.

    The only reason I make dummy files is that the Jacket_Ps don't seem to work if I don't. I wrote a bat file that takes a value in Mbytes as a parm, and it makes a text file that is filled with X's. I place these in the root on the disc. It seems my player is picky about the non-burnt part of the disc.

    There is a guide for making Jacket_Ps on this site. I use Maestro to do this. I also wrote a guide for adding DVD_Text to an alreay authored disc. Look in the guides section.

    I use a bunch of different things to make disc. DVDdecryptor, DVDShrink, IFOEdit, Maestro, DVDLab, Architect, on and on. I did at one time use Nero to burn. Mow I mostly use RecordNowMax because I found it is easy to put any files you want on the disc.

    Nice unit. Wish I had the cash for that. An ES model? I found most disc work for me. Especially in EZ play. It's the home made JPs that give the most trouble. TDKs weren't great. Neither were verbatim. I'm talking DVD-R. I use a pioneer 2x burner.
