  1. Hey everybody I have a quick and stupid question. I was having problems with my DVD rip speed but I think I finally fixed it. I am just curious what a typical rip speed is for a 16x DVD-ROM. I have a 16x LiteOn DVD-ROM and the fastest I have seen it read files off a DVD is 6X? Does that sound correct?

  2. I just purchased the Lite-On LTD-166s, and that may be correct depending on the disc(s) you are ripping, your system hardware, and the program used. With DVD Decrypter, I get up to 8x ripping an original DVD9, or over 12x ripping an original DVD5. Of course, my collection is in good condition so these discs have very few scratches. FWIW.

If you would like to try a get a bit more out of the drive, check out the defense post in this thread:

I received a nice speed boost from this process - thanks defense!

    Best of luck,
