  1. well hi all and i'm proudly a newbie here
i'm gettin the LG gsa-4040b tomorrow and was wonderin about some standards
a cd "X" means 152KB how big is a DVD "X" ,also is the software package comin with my dvd good enough for starters or buggy if tested?
    a cd quality is 44Mhz what's a DVD
and is it so hard to burn a DVD rip avi file to a dvd video ,coz i've read so much debates here on loads of conversions b4 u get the final thing
also what about VOB dvd movies i can download from the internet r those easier to burn and NO i won't ask about the difference between +/-R/RW discs coz i'd always go for the cheaper :P

thnx ppl anyway also if any 1 already got that LG i'm gettin plz mention it so i can make u my anchor :P

    thnx again

Sorry, no idea what you are talking about here.

Who knows. What software is coming with your DVD writer?

    a cd quality is 44Mhz what's a DVD
    48Mhz

Converting avi to DVD is covered in many of the guides under 'convert' on the right of the page.

    We don't discuss
about VOB dvd movies i can download from the internet
as they are illegal and so not allowed to be discussed here (Read the AUP)

    Approximately 9x CD = 1x DVD .

Having a DVDRW drive is really the last step in converting some AVI file to DVD. You can practice at it without a burner (and it takes practice, since no 2 AVI's are the same).

That's what an authoring program does. It takes the DVD compliant video and audio files, merges them, and allows you to make menus and chapters.

Please take the time to read some of the "How To" guides on the left side of the main page in green and most of your questions can be answered there.

  7. hmm so u say i should practice i wonder if it's possible to practice cheap i mean do all the stuff convertin without the burner then burn an image to the HD and use some of those drive emulators like daemon tools to mount the image as disc ,view it then burn it to a disc if it works

    is that possible

    1x DVD (1.01MB/s) speed is ~ 8X CD (1.12MB/s)

1x calcuations for both is data/(seconds in 74min)
data=4482.27MB for DVD based on 4.7GB DVD
data=619.89MB for CD based on 650MB CD
    time=4440 sec in 74mins

If you want a dvd it has to be converted to mpeg 2 from the avi or divx codec and you have to make sure the sound is in sync.

(also dont expect your ps2 to play crappy media DVD-rs well especially if its an older one )
As far as disks you get what you pay for and as long as you are happy with that more power to you, also crappy media makes your PS2 laser wear out quicker since it has to do more seeking and focusing.
