Hi all , have been on this thing all day and cant find a solution to my problem, i have a number of Avi and Mpeg movies that i want to convert to mpeg2 to play on dvd, but i have a problem, when i try and convert anything in TMPGEnc it adds about an hour of black space at the end, making the file huge! a 30 min clip ends up at an hour! if i encode it as an mpeg one it works fine - does not add anything, its just when i try to use scvd or DVD quality i end up with a file twice as big. the video encodes fine all the way though, just get an hour or so of blank space, the template estimates 5000mb for a 30 clip! please can some one help me? i have uninstalled and re installed everything (and codec no difference) i have xvid, divx and AC3 installed that is all, thanks in advance and hope you can help

check and make sure you are selecting the correct frame rate that matchs your source...

VBR audio as input? Confuses TMPGEnc.

why not test it out using a DVD movie as input .. vobs etc... maybe your templates are corrupted...

also make sure your progressive and interlaced settings are correct (which is what i really meant before)

The reason for the black space at the end is because the avi is corrupted and does not have the necessary information to make it play properly - this usually happens to downloaded avi files that have been disconnected before completion or to avi files that have been re-encoded but cancelled before finishing.
The way around this is to either re-encode the avi using something like VirtualDub or to load the file into TMPGEnc and set the source range to match that of the file (if the avi is corrupted then this will 'lock' your PC until it reads through all the frames until it reaches the source range you have selected).Regards,

how do i check that they are correct? im not really sure what they are, im just using the normal templates,

how do i check that the progressive and interlaced settings are correct? the movie is fine 100% all the way though, but as soon as it finishes i get loads of black space, really annoying , but if i use the VCD template it is fine....

Two possible solutions.
1) Use the source range in TmpGenc to tell it to stop encoding 1 frame before the real end.
2) Extract the audio using virtualdub and convert to an uncompressed wav file in the process. Then use this wav file as the audio when you encode. -
he said it worked fine encoding it as vcd - which is progressive .. so i dont think its the VBR bug (could be though) ... since vcd progresive works -- i thought he may be trying to encode as interlaced (his final output is always double i think he said ...)
