  1. I have burned a DVD (using Nero) with over a thousand moderate-quality MP3 songs. My goal was to quickly and randomly access songs from about 70 music CD's this way.

All songs can be accessed on my DVD player in the computer. When I play the DVD in a Toshiba 3900 DVD player only 648 songs will play. It does not "see" the other files in the list. Can anyone tell me why? Is there a way to get the Toshiba 3900 to play all 1000+ songs?

    A bit of supplemental information:
All of the files are sequentially numbered and contain long file names. Naming conventions such as 0001_Artist_SongName.MP3 are used. Only the 8.3 file name shows up on the DVD listing from the Toshiba...which is not a problem. They are a mix of MP3 files using 160 CBR and 192 CBR.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I know it may seem greedy to want more than 648 songs per disc, but, well you know....

I have the 3950 and it is a known quirk with the 3900 series that they will play more songs but they have to be broken down into smaller groups and put into seperate folders. Since your 3900 see's 648, I would burn another disc with multiples of 600 and see if they all show up then.
This would at least give you an answer. But the one thing is when you hit random play or whatever, IT WILL NOT jump from folder to folder to play a different song. It will just play music from the folder you have open.

I think if you do a search here or on Google you will find others with experiences similar to yours. See here :

  3. Tommy:

Thanks for the information. I had read the other post that you placed as a link. I understood the concept of random not being able to bounce between folders or directory structure. I assumed putting all the files in the root folder would solve the issue mentioned in that post.

I tried your suggestion of using multiples of approximately 600, or to be exact, in this case 640 and 408 files in two separate folders. All files are accessible. Random play on 600+ songs and another folder of 400+ songs is a very workable solution. It maximizes the capacity of the DVD and using only two folders is not such a bad way to go.

    Tommy, thanks again.

But if there are any Toshiba reps lurking out there, here's a suggestion: It would be nice to be able to have all the songs in one folder and randomly access the full DVD capacity of MP3 songs.
