just ordered Pioneer dvr106 and now I need to get blank dvds for it. Can some one tell me what is better for burning movies and copying dvds DVD-R or DVD+R. What is the difference between the 2 and which one is cheaper. Also which one is more compateble with most dvd players. Also does anyone know any good sites where it could be purchased? Thanks

For the differences I suggest you read the sticky in this forum, or click this link.

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=172496

On the -R side I suggest trying Ritek G04 4x media, others can make suggestions about +R media.

If you had read the forum at all before posting you would realize that asking about the +/- debate is just opening a big thread asking for trouble and getting very little info. That aside people, please behave.

I think without a doubt that the absolute best DVD-R media is the Taiyo-Yuden brand.

Some retail stores (such as BEST BUY) carry 10-packs of FUJI and these are made my Taiyo-Yuden. You can tell because it is only the FUJI 10-pack in jewel cases and it says MADE IN JAPAN on the back. The other packages of FUJI DVD-R media say MADE IN TAIWAN and are NOT made by Taiyo-Yuden

You can also buy Taiyo-Yuden DVD-R discs direct from on-line retailers such as MERITLINE.COM and RIMA.COM

RIMA.COM has the best prices I've seen but last time I checked you had to buy a 100 pack to get that price.

Another brand just as good is MAXELL and they come just like the FUJI discs ... a 10-pack in jewel cases. Harder to find (in my opinion) than the FUJI 10-pack and can't seem to find them cheaper in any other type of "bulk" packaging but the MAXELL discs are also top notch.

Taiyo Yuden also make some of the best +R disks around. Hard to find though. The Plextor brand +R disks are TY. TY also has their own brand---Thats. You can also find some Verbatim DatalifePlus disks made in Japan that will be TY.

If you want to buy them 50 at a time you can look here:
    http://www.issidvds.com/index.html

They aren't anywhere near the price of the Riteks, but I think the quality control on the TY's will be better.
