  2. Is it a registered version, or a trial?
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  4. netstealth,

That's interseting as I have been having the same problem both with WinCoder(full version supplied with video card) and Power VCR II(trial) and AVI-IO.
What sort of capture card are you using ? I am using a MSI GeForce4 MX460. I have sent an email to MSI support but as yet have not had a reply, I am not sure if there is a simple setting that I have overlooked or if there is a fault in the capture card. I am thinking more towards a fault on the capture card rather than settings in the software.
I had been using a cheap capture card from AverMedia based on a BT878 chip and had no problems with capture except that I could not capture greater than 320 x 240.

  5. Hey how can u describe your problem cuz mines a big thick white rectanglular box in the center - horizontal and the video only shows on the bottom and the top. So far i've only tried WinCoder, if I don't get a sooner response i'll probably try other software. ANYONE OUT THERE HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!

  6. netstealth,

Yes the same problem, if you split the screen horizontally into three sections the middle section is covered with a white rectangle, the capture shows in the top third and the bottom third only.

Like I said before I have tried WinCoder, Power VCRII and AVI-IO to capture on Windows 2000 and Win98se and all produce the same effect. So I do not think the problem is with the software, I think it is a setting with how the capture card interacts with the capture software or a fault with the capture card itself.

What capture card are you using ?

  7. I'm using a GeForce Ti4200 with svideo in/out but the thing is that I captured about 30 mins of vid. 2 days ago and it did it fine. I don't understand what the problem is now. hmm it's pretty weird but it does point to the hardware so i gotta remember what i changed if I did change any settings. Do you have any suggestions? Oh ya and does yours do it throughout the whole video or does it come and go?

  8. netstealth,

When I first set up the software and tried to capture some video I only got about 6 seconds of good capture before I saw the white rectangle, after that it seemed to be persistent.

My MSI GeForce MX460 has svideo in/out as well as rca video in/out and
the problem has occured using both svideo and the rca connection.

I have the video card connected to a Gigabyte mb with a VIA333 chipset and 512MB DDR memory.

I have to log off now but I'll look at the board agian tomorrow...

Good luck with trying to find a solution, if I come up with anything I'll post it.

  9. Listen I have a clue that it might be the drivers so i'm going to try a driver rollback because i remember that this problem MIGHT have started after i installed new drivers. If I have any luck i'll post.

  10. netstealth,

I think that I have solved my problem, I mangaed to capture at least an hour of video witout the white box :P

It was a driver problem, even though I still had not heard back from MSI support after sending them an email, I did notice yesterday that they had new drivers on their web site with release dates 4 days after the email I sent, so I downloaded and gave them a try, they appear to be working.

You did not say if your GeForce Ti4200 was a MSI product but if it was it might be worth going to their site to download these drivers.

Below are the links to the site ...

    nVidia Capture Driver v1.16 22/07/02
    ====================================
    http://download.msi.com.tw/support/dvr_exe/Capture3a.exe

    nVidia Standard driver v3.0.0.0 23/07/02

    Win98SE/ME

    2000/XP
    -------

I updated the Standard driver and then installed the capture drivers.

    Good Luck, Dunkem.

  11. Yea i found the same solution. I actually called to san francisco 3 days ago and they told me that for my vid card (gainward not MSI) only the V.1.08 WDM driver would work. I tried n it worked .

  12. Thanks for the help tho.

  13. I have an Evga that gives me that white box. I tried the 1.08 drivers but it wouldn't install the card with those drivers. So far 1.11, 1.12, and 1.16 do not help the white box. I am trying to capture home video's.

  14. WDM 1.08 works fine. Good to count on you, MSI support simply doesn't work.

  15. I've been having problems with capture also and my son has had recent problems with games. I very recently upgraded to the Nvidia 40.72 beta drivers from a 30.xx series. I have read on other forums about buggy display problems with the new 40.xx drivers. Will roll back to my previous version and see if that corrects all ills. I also downloaded the 40.52 version and will see if that works better than the 40.72 currently installed.

  16. I am running W2K and have WDM 1.12 and Nvidia 40.72 drivers with my Gainward Geforce4 700xp golden sample and only have the white bar across the screen for a few seconds of the capture. Then it disappears and all is fine.

  18. Ok, now I can have a post
Im Newbie in video capture and im using a nVidia WDM Video Capture (universal)
    I running XP
I have these white rectangles, but obviously i read the answers to this problem. BUT
    - I can't find the 1.08 version of the driver off the nVidia website. The version im running is 1.17. Where can i download it?
    - I'd like to know if it is still possible to remove the white rectangle from my capture (the thing i captured won't be broadcasted soon).
    - Another problem is that recently im only getting mono from my audio device (Realtek AC'97 Audio), is it because my plug in device is crashed or more likely my composite cable (when im using this cable from pc -> tv it gives stereo)
I tried all the different plugs i have (aux, line in, even microphone) and they all give the same result = mono
    - And last but not least, i would like to use the Huffyuv v2.1.1 - CCESP Patch v0.2.2 compression, but once ive captured in this format, i can compress it with TMPGEnc Any ideas?

  19. This is a macrovision protection problem, or at least that's what a lot of other users are saying.

I had the same difficulty with the 2.13 WDM drivers, then I uninstalled and tried the 1.08 drivers. The white rectangular box vanished after that.

Try a search on "macrovision+ VHS+ capture +nvidia" and I think you'll see quite a few others with this problem, and the 1.xx WDM driver fix.

Ducky, you will have to manually install the 1.08 drivers because your other drivers didnt get replaced.
    Quote Quote
  22. how to do that johns0?
i did update the driver manually, but it still gives me the white box. i believe recent drivers haven't been removed. I tried to use destroy detonators but doesn't work for XP, and i tried regsupreme also. this one worx under XP, but i believe 1.17 is still here since when i want to update my driver, i can choose 1.17 or 1.08

You have to go into control panel/system/hardware/device manager/sound,video and game controller and click on each of the 4 wdm drivers and select driver/update driver/install from a list or specific location/dont search, ill choose a driver to select from/ and it will show the drivers available, choose the 1.08 driver,do this for each wdm device.

  24. yeah, ive already done that. but the white rectangle is still here. i tried to patch the MV codec, but the prgram has been realized for 2K or NT users, and my MV codec is located in another folder. the problem is that i can copy the codec to the right folder but i can't paste it once patched (coz it isz originally located in a .cab folder (WINDOWS/drivercache/xxx.cab)
    any ideas?
