  1. I have an ADS Intant DVD and a Digital camcorder with Firewire out.
I have a couple of questions. Which is Faster? or Better?
    1. I can capture video at SVCD Variable bitrate (2.6mb/s) with the ADS. Quality isn't a real issue because the source isn't great to start with. Can I put this directly into a program and burn a DVD without having to do hours of encoding? Can I get 4hours on 1 DVD?

    2. Other option is to use the camcorder as a AV-DV converter and feed into Firewire. How long should I expect to go from a 2 hour VHS to a DVD? I know it will take the 2 hours to play plus the time to burn the DVD, but how long to do the conversion to DVD compatible files ready to burn? I would also like to know if there is a difference in time to compress 2 hours analog to a full 4.7G or 2.35G (i.e. puting 4 hours on the disc).

Actually, the time is really not that long. Although I never did two hours of DV to a DVD, the trick would be to convert the DV into .m2v and mp2 files, once you have the video on your computer. TMPGEnc is good for this.

Then, just change file extension of the mp2 file to .mpa, and run both the .m2v and .mpa files through IfoEdit. The resultant files are then burned with Nero, or whatever.
    Hello.
