I've tried for hours now, got a DVD without sound once....but so confused I can't even remember how!!
At the moment I'm taking a short avi, and converting it to DVD compatible pal using TMPGEnc plus. Then demux using the same, and re-author via IFOedit.
(TMP author and burn doesn't seem to work for me)
I then burn in Nero 5.5 using the wizard. I put the relevant ifo, vob etc files into the video_ts folder and away it goes.
Shortly thereafter i have produced a DVD+RW which Power DVD tells me is "....unsupported format...." and my player (JVC N33) seems to agree with it.
My recorder (BTC) is new, but has no problems recording audio cd's or VCD's.
Can anyone spot the (un)deliberate mistake.....? once I get that first one out....wow!!....then I can start to build my knowledge.

MANY MISTAKES are possible with a newbie using TMPGenc
can you use a program with a dumbed down interface first (like ULEAD or PINNACLE STUDIO instead) to get something done without knowing..
or do you want to have us point you to a guide wher the settings you need are outlined
JUST GO ON THE LEFT pane of the site there are so many guides to TMPG its not funny..
If you want specific help tho' you need to post some info about what you did...
1. An avi can be of many differing types
are you submitting a typical AUDIO VIDEO INTERLEAVE file with a Microsoft VIDEO 1 compressor?
Or are you using a file "called" avi that's really an MPEG-4 (TMPG doesn't accept these files)
2. What kind of audio does the input file bear?.. Its useless to submit certain codec to TMPG (ac3 being one of the less usable types) -
One thought - When burning with Nero did you add an (EMPTY) "AUDIO_TS" folder ??
Some players (but not all) require this on the finished DVDR(W) or they won't play it.
If all else fails try Ulead DVD MovieFactory. Just add your .avi, create some menus, let it convert your .avi to VOBs etc and then burn with Nero. Works great for me.
Moonstomp.Just because you're nobody, doesn't mean that you're no good. Just because there's a reason, doesn't mean it's understood. It doesn't make it all right ! (The Specials) -
Too many errors are possible with what you are doing. Try ULEAD DVD MOVIE FACTORY for an all-in-one solution. After you have mastered that, move on on something more flexible. If you want a bit more editing capabilities, try ULEAD VIDEO STUDIO 7, also an all-in-one. Both ULEAD products are available as free trials for 30 days for you to experiment.

Maybe risk a DVD+r, just one, to see if it is a problem with your +RW media. -
Wow !!.....that Ulead sure is straightforward.....
Now the bad news - it don't burn anything that works - I'm seriously thinking I got some wierd kind of writer that loves cd's / hates dvd's or these nashua dvd+rw I'm using aren't any good.
Ist step: get some different dvd rw's
2nd: Shout at technical dept of burner people....
I'll keep you informed. -
Ok then - got it.........The Discs !!
5 x Nashua DVD+RW defective/incompatible
1 x Freebie DVD+RW that came with the player is fine and working.
Many thanks to you guys that helped me out - Ulead works for me, however I lose the sound about halfway through my film.
I know why, you know why.....and we won't go into that....!
However, I'm working on it......
Tx again !
