  1. Hi there,

    I've recently bought a Pioneer DVR (106D).

While trying to backup my DVD's I've encountered a strange problem:

While burning on a +R or +RW format the Backup is working perfectly (Passes file verification in Nero 6 and plays smoothly on any DVD player).

While Burning on -R format, the last file is getting damaged for some reason and fails on Nero files verification and sometimes even the viewing is not so smooth: e.g. freezes on different parts of the menu.

I've tried different media brands and nothing helps.
I've tried a fresh install of DVD burning programs (to avoid conflicts) but that didn't helped much.
I've upgraded the firmware to 1.07 - but still getting the same result.

Did anyone encountered this kind of problem with his DVR-106D?
Do you think the DVR itself might be the problem?

    Thanks for your help.

    Ziv.

  2. I think there's a good possibility that the video files you are trying to burn have some sort of a problem. Possibly there's a mismatch between one of the IFO and BUP files. This would be the result of the sw that created the files.

You can test your files yourself, using DVD Shrink. Open the IFO file with DVD Shrink. You may get an error almost right away while it does the initial analysis. If it goes past the analysis, proceed and transcode the files with no modification and with no compression. Dump the results in another VIDEO_TS folder. If you can not complete this step, then NERO can not burn it properly either.

When you try to burn a set of defective video files on a -R media, Nero will act up. Even if it carries out the burning process to the end, it can not close the disk successfully.

If you try to burn the same set of defective video files on a -/+RW media, then I think disk closing would not be required. Nero proceeds and burns the files as if they were just data files. The files on the disk would not be quite right but most DVD players would play them just fine anyway.

The only thing that puzzles me about your question is that you say you burned successfully on +R and +RW. Are you sure about that? Or, did you just burn on a +RW and you think it would also burn okay on a +R?
