which codec to use to capture from TV

I just purchased the Leadtek Winfast 2000 card and I'd like to record TV shows. In the configuration of the card, it allows you to select different video and audio codec for the capture. Which codec should I use to produce a good quality and no dropped frames. I would like to take the resulting video capture and eventually burn them to either SVCD or DVD.


Also, is there a way for me to get a clearer picture when watching cable tv on my computer?

Two popular ones to try are Huffyuv and PICvideo. Huffy is better, PIC works if you have problems with dropping frames. They are in the 'Tools' section to the left. There are others, depending on what the final use of your video is. As far as watching TV on your computer, monitors are not built for TV. You can try modifying your card settings for the best picture.
