I trashed my NEC-1300a because it crapped out on my about 3weeks in to the purchase date. So, I purchased a DVR-106 (OEM) from Newegg.com for 146.99 w/ shipping. Now, I'm curious if I should just use the firmware it comes with or update it to a different version.

I'll be using x1-x4 of TDK, Fujifilm, and Ritek G04 (authentic).

Side note recently my computer has been restarting randomly, and now almost every time I click on the 'Start" button it reboots.

I tried everyone AVS known to man and they all found nothing, I used stinger and it found nothing. I then formatted my HHD, reloaded Windows XP pro (clean full format), and I still have the same problem. So, then i ran the diagnostic tools from Western Digital and it founf nothing wrong either. So, could it be my HHD, or possible something else?

  2. I too have a couple of questions. I am considering buying the oem version and have heard that there are serveral different 106s out there there 106D, 106U and other ones. From my limited readings thus far, I hear that certain models won't let you upgrade firmware. I hear 106D will let you do all firmware including hacked. Can someone please elaborate on this, please.
