  1. Let's try to put all the useful info together here and make a guide to creating a SVCD with 5.1 sound!

So post your Guide to make SVCD with multichannel 5.1 sound here. Please list the software you used as well.

I have read a lot about it on the forum, but i couldn't find something useful, especially since i don't use Linux...

Also, some links to the software used would be nice.

Ok, thanks a lot! And i hope a lot of people will benefit from this...

Both sites have samples. I highly suggest you test your equipment with these before bothering to try and make one yourself. Honestly, the 5.1 ext to svcd audio is really just a theoretical format, I think its a pretty useless endevour. You'll almost never find hardware to support it...supposedly even if your hardware supports multichannel mpeg audio it still doesnt work...dont know why but thats what I've heard.

just select the VOB or AC3 file and click encode. Its really slow.

  4. yeah, adam's right, the chances of having the right hardware are slim. it's more common in europe, where MPEG-2 audio was originally part of the DVD standard. but i have seen a couple of the new $800+ kenwood receivers advertizing it in the US. then you also need a DVD player that will support it. and that's where the catch is for me- i have a pioneer player that will, but not for anything on a CD. it's kinda like how playing miniDVD should be possible, but when the player detects an ISO filesystem and a CD it won't load the DVD playback software- the MPEG out light stays off even when the SVCD is playing, leading me to believe that it will only output a 5.1 MPEG steam when a DVD is present. and if you have a DVD-R, you might as well use DD or dts.

This may not work. Somebody mentioned a while ago that they tried this, and the audio didn't work at all (with MC-MPEG audio, even if you can't get the 5.1 channels, you should still at least get normal stereo audio). Of course, this was only one report...
