  1. Anyone have any recommendations for what kind of settings in TMPGEnc will work well for animation/cartoons?

  2. I do a ton of anime and ive had great success ...
    NOTE i am using TMPGEnc2.0

    --SVCD--
Fitting about 45-50mins per disc (2 episodes):
    *480x480, 2passVBR, 1600average, 2400max, 0 min, 192audio
*Inverse telecine: auto, convert to 24fps, flicker priority, no deinterlace, let it run for a while
*Noise reduction: i set time to 2, bump most other sliders about halway
*Edge Enhance: i usually crank this up
*Clip frame: i MASK out 12 at top and bottom, using black
*Deinterlace: double if its a grab, no deinterlace if its rip
audio: for grab, i have to adjust volume to 60%, but this will vary by machine i think
    *Detect scene change on
*GOP no motion search by half pixel DO NOT use soften block noise

    --XVCD--
    352x240, 2pass VBR, 1600average, 2400max, 0min, 192audio
    * All other settings same as SVCD

These result in kickass looking SVCD/XVCD but fit about 45-50mins per disc ... which i think is good for anime because that is 2 TV episodes or 1 OVA. On my SVCD there is very little block noise at all, and none on my XVCD.

    Hope this helps,
    JTurbo

PS: have a hella fast machine or lots-o-time for 2passVBR with TMPGEnc, but the quality is damn worth it!
