  1. somebody told me that 16:9 standard svcd isn't possible, is this true?

if not, how do i make it (using tmpgenc) so that when i play the video with my dvd player, it's in 16:9 format?

you can use any ration you want.
but if you use an NTSC or PAL template, you'll get black borders.

True 16:9 anamorphic isn't possible on anything other than 704 or 720 horizontal images as your DVD player won't expand the picture correctly. For VCD, CVD or SVCD you will have to settle for letterboxed 16:9 in a 4:3 frame with black borders top and bottom of the screen.

You can't author any DVD with an MPG that has a 16:9 DAR that is less than 702x480. I found out the hard way with some beautiful 352x480's that had 16:9 encoding. No go. Same applies to 480x480 or 352x240, etc. You DVD player will probably play it if you fake the authoring (like doing SVCD2DVD with fake headers to avoid a re-encode)

BBC, me, and NERO all agree: SVCD's have to be 4:3 (anyting less than full D1 has to be 4:3).

What's that saying? Out of the frying pan and into the fryier?

The answer is no. Don't be silly now with your questions. If it was possible to fit 2 hours of SVCD material on a single CD-R you would know about it.

And please don't anyone start with that KVCD crap :P

  10. I meant, just like VCDs, two VCDs can fit into one.
