    so f**g what?
different media type used to store it doesnt change anything - its still shi**y low quality, *castrated* version of original music...

if you like music so much get at least CDDA albums! You can fit quite few of them on a DVD-R as well, without lowering down their quality to sound worse than the one off of old cassette players

    UncleBud,

What model of portable DVD player do you have? I'm intrested in getting one but would like it to be able to read MP3 on DVD, not just CD as many do.

    Thanks,

exactly my point - any reproduction is a compromise.

so the question becomes, at what point is the compromise acceptable to you? if this guy is satisfied about putting all these mp3's on a dvd, he's obviously satisfied with the sound quality of them to begin with.

what purpose is served by trying to rain on his parade?

personally, I'm curious as to how he did it, and it would be nice if he explained his process, rather than just saying "hey, wow, I did this."

    A 128k MP3 (minimum quality) is about 1 MB per 1 minute.

DVD has 4472 MB, so 4472 minutes.

Most songs are 4-5 minutes on average.

You're looking at almost exactly 1000 songs on a DVD.

96 albums of about 10 songs each equals about 1000 songs.

    I use 160k and 192k for my DVD-MP3 collections.

But that's a lot of music, so my whole collection fits on 2-3 DVDs.

    Uncle Bud

Your post about "well that quote thing worked well!!!" has had me in fits of laughter all day. Such an English sense of humour. Are you? With a name like Uncle Bud I guess you are American. If so, I am surprised ya have such a dry sense of humour.

  17. I use Nero for burning just about everything.
You can use ISO or UDF format. Some players perfer one over the other.

"Brushswinger" I'm glad you enjoyed the post. I'm in Ohio.

That was the first time I'd tried using the quote thing, I'm not sure what it's for as it didn't work the way I thought it would. Oh well!

Jeez I thought i just would have a bit of a blab of how easy it is
I used HaCd to burn the compilation its really easy a real no-brainer
the thing that pisses me off that you can't see the list in all stand alone dvd players very good for parties.
Don't ruin record collection and nothing gets flogged (hehe).
as for the quality you can't tell the difference unless you have a oscilloscope connected(Derex888), most parties your to busy drinking.
And why they got wacked on dvd is collection was getting a bit big at 28Gig :P :P :P

Very few DVD players support DVD-MP3,mostly Chinese made players such as Cyberhome. You can author using MP2 audio with DVDLab or TMPGEnc DVD Author, you can make one album a slideshow and make 99 slideshows.

    Moviefreak,

As far as I know, when a DVD of any type is inserted in most DVD players, they are by default assumed to be the Video type and the players starts looking for a video_ts folder. That's why DVD-MP3 is not very common and that's what my APEX 3201 does. I also have a Norcent DP-300 that does recognize DVD-MP3. As for the burn method, it is just a DVD-R (or DVD+R) onto which I burn MP3 files as data with Nero. I just use directories to subdivide into artists and albums.

well - few things to few ppl (im too lazy to find quotes).

    MP3 vs CDDA:
if you cant hear the difference then you either have to change your s***y speakers or amplifier for something better, or you simply need to pay a visit to a doctor

    DVD-MP3
most dvd players can't play it (as well they won't play CDDA on DVD either). Majority of those that do play it, have a problem with long file names and/or displaying id3 tags. It is not the matter of a software youre using to make your DVD-MP3 disc, its your player's ability what matters.

    DVD-MP2
reencoding mp3 to mp2 (mpeg-1 layerII) or even better - reencoding wav/CDDA to mp2 (better sound quality) and authoring disc as dvd-video should give the broadest compatibility with dvd players. However there are still some players that cant play dvd-video with mpeg sound (mostly in north america as some1 pointed out earlier).

    now i have some questions:
Anyone tried to make own DVD-A? what software were you using?

    TIA

PLEASE LMK if you find any player that was NOT made in China (im not talking about those "assembled in ..." that are assembled of China-make parts anyway)

I agree that if you're going to encode to mp2 you might as well start from wav (otherwise known as LPCM) On the other hand, you probably have not read the official DVD specifications. DVD Demystified, which is kind the the layman's book on the specs, states that the only audio format support required in DVD-Video players are LPCM and AC3. MP2 happens to be supported in most DVD players, but that is not required, so the ones that still can't play mpeg sound may support it or may not in the future. Your quote seems to imply that more will eventually. I wouldn't hold my breath.
