  1. I was trying to burn an mpeg movie to VCD in Nero when the following message came up:

The file is not a valid file for creating a standard Video CD V2.0 (CD-l player) disc.
A compliant video file requires the following specifications:
MPEG-1 which was encoded for Video CD:
    audio: 44.1 kHz; stereo; 224 Kbit/s
    video: 352 x 240 / 29.97 Hz or 352 x 240 / 23.976 Hz or 352 x 288 / 25 Hz.

The mpeg that I am trying to burn has an aspect ratio of 1:1.8 (or 576 x 320 pixels), so it doesn't match any of the aspect ratio's stated above.

Does that mean that I can't keep the original aspect ratio if I want to burn this movie onto VCD (i.e do I have to shrink the width of the movie)?

    magic_implus,

I think you've got a few options here.

-Either tell Nero to ignore the message and burn anyway...good luck on whether the aspet ratio looks good when view on TV on your standalone. Not sure if it will look correct or not.

-Or, run it through an encoder like TMPGenc with a 'keep aspect ratio' setting but at the new resolution. It will introduce 'black bars' encoded into the VCD but it will work.

-Or, find a tool that will chop your video to the correct resolution. Not sure where to go with that one. Haven't run into it yet.

That's about all I have based on the info you provided. If you have something more on the resolution, bit rate, audio of the mpeg file, your replies will probably more specific.
    Have a good one,

Look here, 'specially at Resolution". In other words, there are very strict limitations on how a mpeg shuld be made to be fit as material for a VCD. You have to encode to meet those specs.
