Does anybody know what the difference is between Optorite DD0203 and "newer" DD0201 model? I compared the specs of two drives and could not find a single line that would be different. The only noticeable difference was the front panel. Is that where the price difference ($3.00) between these drives comes from? Does DVD burner need a different firmware revision for different front panel?

I believe the -0203 is for the Retail Sales market and the -0201 is for the OEM/Bulk Distribution market ???

Sounds right. I've got the MSI DRA4 which is the 0201 drive, works a treat.
Sanyo actually make the drives, its also rebadged by MSI, Optorite and IISonic I think.

Just received the answer on my question from Optorite Support:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are a few differences with the DD0201 and DD0203 drives.
1. The CD Loading Tray mechanism for the drive is different.
2. The DD0201 drive has two buttons (play/forward fast and eject) while the DD0203 drive has only one button (an eject button).
3. The DD0201 drive has one LED light (for read/write) while the DD0203 drive has two LEDs (one for read and write).
4. Because of the difference in 1, 2, and 3, the firmware for the DD0201 and DD0203 drives are different. Thus, the firmware for the DD0201 drive will not work for the DD0203 drive and vice versa.
Both drives have the same features, CD-R/CD-RW, DVD+R/+RW, DVD-R/-RW, and HD-Burn. The DD0201 drive has a bit more style to it then the DD0203 drive. The DD0201 model is newer.

Style?! Who gives a shnit about style?! If I want style on my Optorite burners I'll silkscreen a picture of Paris Hilton free-lippin' in her sports car all over the bezel!
