There is no "which is it".
Many of us use different programs, dependent on their strength.

    For example,

    - DVD2one is great on movies with high bitrates.
    - DVD shrink is best on mid-to-low bitrate shows like episode discs (deep analysis required).

INSTANTCOPY It may take the longest (ok...not may...definately takes the longest) but gives by far the best quality.....and hey...its not like I'm sitting at the machine while it chugs along.

DVDShrink has served me well for both MPEG2 captures and DVD backups and the price is right as well.

I'm affraid I have to disagree, GKar, as compared to the commercial competition, the DVD Shrink price is not right.
It could easily cost $50 or more.

  10. CloneDVD.

I don't like dvd2one. I always get artifacts and with clone I get none...or next to none.

Usually I use a method that uses CCE, but lately I've been playing with the new instant copy and I'm kinda impressed. Seems to do everything I've thrown at it perfectly. I like the choice between Quality and Speed (but why use it for speed when you have DVDShrink for that) and I like the choice to do movie only or the entire thing.

I've encoded a few movies I was unhappy with the Shrink quality on with it and they look fine to me. So basicly If it nearly fits I just use DVDShrink, if it Needs quite a bit of shirnking I use InstantCopy now, if it needs TONS aka over 2 hours and 30min movie with good quality then I still use a CCE method. If its an episode disc I use a combo of Nero Recode and Menu edit to split to 2 disc.

DVDShrink for most movies. Probably 2/3 are under 4.3 GB after cutting out what I don't want.

Assorted others for really big movies......

  15. I use DVDshrink for about 80% of my movies. Instant Copy 7 for the rest. IC when I really like the movie or if it is big.

  16. You missed out some stuff.
I use CCE along with The Big 3, or i will do a movie only with CCE if it still needs to be re-encoded.

by high bitrate are these movies the ones that contain lots of high-speed action?
DVD shrink is best on mid-to-low bitrate shows like episode discs
would these be dramas (low speed stuff)? thanks.

i have done some. my conclusion is i can rarely if ever see any difference either on my 19" pc monitor, or my 31" tv with my set-top using d2o and shrink. the only difference i've seen was transcodes of Beauty and the Beast Platinum Edition. there i saw more pixelation with d2o than shrink.
just interested in other peoples' experiences/thoughts, man
besides if you would kindly re-read my post i was not asking him for comparative opinions.

I added a CCE Based option to the poll, its a little better rounded now.

  22. You just added CCE so I'm voting for it. All of the transcoders suck (in comparison ) But it really depends. If you ask me which produces the best quaility, it's not even a real question. Re-encoding beats transcoding, period.

But best quaility isn't even the main concern to most (how many people post questions about converting a 90MB divx to DVD and then swear how get the quaility is). It's also about speed and easy of use.

IFOEdit is a very popular tool, few would consider it the best choice for a main movie back because it's not as user friendly as DVD Shrink.

    So for me it's:
    1. CCE
    2. DVD Shrink is 6.5GB or less, IC if > 6.5Gb (or so)
