  1. Is there such a thing as an easy way to do this? I can't for the life of me get a dvd to work, each one I try either ends up playing with no audio on the dvd player, or has a green picture, yet the copy is seemingly perfect when played on pc.

  3. If it works fine on the PC but not on a standalone there are several possibilities but it is unlikley to be NTSC to PAL conversion.

The possibilities I can think of are:
    Authoring, something not quite right.
Mpeg DVD compliance. Any problems here SHOULD be thrown up by the authoring program, but some are more flexible than others.
Media compatibility. Just because your PC drive can read a certain disc doesn't mean your standalone will. Have you checked your player in the compatibility list.
Video but No audio could mean you are using an invalid audio format format such as 44.1khz sample rate.

Give us some more details on your source material and procedures followed for conversion and authoring, we might be able to track down where things are going wrong.

  4. OK

I got the AVI, extracted the audio using virtuadub and under the audio menu used direct stream copy instead of full processing mode, saved the wav file.

Then used TMPEnc encoder and the PAL 4:3 w/ MP2 audio project wizard, used the original avi as video source and the extracted wav as audio source. On the expert setting choose non interlace as video type, top field first in field order and 4:3 625 line (PAL) in Aspect Ratio. Had a video bitrate of 3938 and audio bitrate of 384. Audio was 48000 Hz sampling rate. Stream type was System (Video+Audio).

I burned it using Nero 6.0, burned to Princo DVD-R and Ritek DVD-R, my standalone is a Kenwood DVR-7000, which, according to the DVD compatability lists should play DVD-R and DVD-RW. When it burned however it played with video but no audio.

If you need to know any other settings let me know and I'll do my best.

  5. Also, if you have any other suggestions on what software to use, it is highly appreciated.

1st, if the source is divx avi you should use vga (1:1) source aspect ratio.

2nd, you dont say where you live but some US DVD players do not accept mp2 audio. Try authoring a disc with AC3 or PCM (wav) audio and see if that fixes the audio problem.
