  1. Hello...

I'm a complete newbie to video editing, but I need to get a wedding video touched up and on to DVD.

A bit of background info first: I have two cameras, one a MiniDV camera with S Video/DV ports, and another hi8 camera with Svideo.

    I'm using a 1ghz 17" Imac flatpanel....it has firewire, but no DV.

So, I bought the canopus ADVC 100 and it arrived today. But....Am I missing something here? When I read about it, I thought I could convert the analog to digital, and get it into my mac for editing via firewire.

.....but I don't see that here. The manual says " connect to PC with DV ports. " And though I know it is mac compatible, my imac doesn't HAVE dv ports.

Could someone please point out the obvious to me, or point me in what direction I need to go to get the video onto the mac for editing?

    Thanks in advance...

The ADVC 100 hooks up to your comp. via firewire, and since you stated that your comp. has firewire, Where are you running into a problem.

  3. Lot of people/companies says "DV port" for firewire...So just plug Your MiniDV camera into that port, launch iMovie and grab material to HDD...Then edit it and export it back to camera or to iDVD or whatever...For hi8 You need converter...Hook it in firewire, then hi8 into canopus, and You are off to go...

  4. Ah, I get it. The problem was that the Canopus converter manual said DV....not firewire. I didn't know the two could be interchangable terms, and If I HAD, well, I would have kept my $200 and done without the ADVC. ( The hi8 camera is borrowed. ) But, I guess I can use the converter for something yet.....capturing VHS, perhaps?

    anyways, thanks for your help....
I'm sure I'll need it again!

You wont regret buying the ADVC 100, its a great device. Its one of the best capture devices for VHS, no audio sync problems that you would get with alot of other devices.

Visit this site often, there are alot of people that can help you out with any problem dealing with video and many other things also.

  7. Hey, thanks for all the kind words....

and sorry I didn't see that last post until I started a new thread! ( Though it's not about audio...)

Well, I guess I'll keep the Canopus. It seems like a fun toy, and works well....right now it's just the user that doesn't know how to operate.
