  1. According to the site they are selling the A06 for $159. They also have a good deal on the DRU-510A...but for some reason..they are selling the older, 1st gen Sony DRU-500AX for $100 more then the DRU-510A. They must be kidding.

    Here's the links.

    Pioneer A06: http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=305230&pfp=hpf2#checkstore

    DRU510A: http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=303201&pfp=BROWSE

    1st Gen DRU-500AX

EDIT: It actually does appear "NEW." I guess that refurbished link is on all items. I personally wouldn't purchase a Pioneer burner..but I know many would..and this would seem to be a great deal.

Still not sure why the SONY DRU-500AX would be so much more then the DRU510A. OfficeDepot is actually selling the DRU500AX for $350. They really must be jokin'.

  2. You can get a 106 for $144 and a06 for $168 at newegg and no rebates
I think most people..including myself...would prefer to get their DVD BURNER the same day they purchase it. Not to mention that it's $10 cheaper at CompUsa then it is at newegg. It's a win/win situation. Big deal..you gotta wait for a $20 rebate..it isn't like a $200 rebate.

To go into CompUsa and pay that price for the A06...that's pretty much the best deal i've seen yet on that drive.

  3. Whatever rebate from CompUSA is ($20 or $200), you don't get it until you start fighting for your rebate after 8 weeks. The fighting takes another 2-4 weeks if you have all copies (receipt, rebate, UPC, etc.). At least that is my experience with many mail-in rebates from CompUSA. Thanks to the store manager in local CompUSA store - the fighting ends up with cash back of the rebate amount. That's why I never count mail-in rebate discounts from CompUSA, I only count their instant rebates.

  5. There is one advantage and thats if you want to try it out and see if its to your liking, if not then you can easily take it back.

And if you're talking about most people, from the threads I've read, most people don't think much of the software that goes with the A06 and elect to go with the the 106 - $15 cheaper w/o rebate and $35 cheaper what you have to pay up front at CompUSA.

Its not a bad deal, just not sure I'd call it a great deal.

    Ain't life a Bitch.

@ Vanderlow...there's far more then one advantage to purchasing that drive from CompUsa. I woudln't expect most to figure out the other advantages though. I mean...getting your drive the same time you pay for it...why would that be an advantage. Or geting a drive which you could easily replace with NO down time should it become defective within a month..well..that wouldn't be a second advantage......a third advantage is to see as you say..if you like that particular drive in the first place. Maybe you want to purchase several drives, test them all..return the ones you don't like. But that wouldn't be an advantage either.

Nor would purchasing from a reputable establishment like COMPUSA...that wouldn't be an advantage either. Not sure what posts you're reading..but Neweggs deal isn't as good as COMPUSAs. Not only would you have all the advantages I mentioned...which I'm sure was only ONE...but you'd get the drive for $10 cheaper from COMPUSA then NEWEGG.

Now that I think about it....there isn't a SINGLE advantage of purchasing that drive at NEWEGG. And as far as the 106' go...if someone reads all the Pioneer posts on this forum and for that minute price differential..still goes with the 106...there a fool. There are many disadvantages of purchasing a OEM drive over a Brand Drive. If you read the posts on the forum..you'll find more then one...I promse.

  9. LOL I dont know whats wrong with you guys....do NOT (and i repeat) do NOT buy something with a mail-in-rebate from COMPUSA (unless u dont really want that rebate money back). I've had many (about 8) BAD experiences (out of 8) rebates that I've sent in. Each time involved calling/arguing/showing proof of purchase/calling again/arguing some more/waiting for weeks/calling/complaining/FINALLY getting my money

    -My advice for the week-
    -Yar, matey!-

  10. @ jeex...I still wouldn't purchase from avilogic....the additional $20 or so is well worth it to get your drive the same day and not have to worry if the drive is defective what amount of time you'll be out. If the price difference were anywhere from $75 or more..i'd agree...avilogic is the way to go. But Compusa's deal as far as i'm concerned is clearly the best.

Sure..if you get the drive from avilogic and nothing goes wrong within the first 30 days....you're good to go. But people DEFINITELY do get defective drives for one reason or another...and it would be a real pain in the A$$ to have to go through the waiting route. I wouldn't bother with it. When I got my DRU-510A...there was actually a really..really ODD problem with the laser. The damn thing would cause defective disks when they were burned @4x. Disks which were UNRIPPABLE....but @2x..the disks would rip and play perfectly.

I am EXTREMELY LUCKY I caught this initially....because just scanning through chapters IS NOT the way to check your disks as some may think. I'm very fortunate....I only had to re-do three disks....I took the drive back to Best Buy...got another one...and no problems from that point on. Every damn piece of 4x media i've thrown at it burns at 4x without a hitch. Couldn't ask for more excellent results. But had I purchased that drive online...i'd probably still be waiting for it to be repaired/replaced. For the extra minute amount of money..the Compusa deal is the way to go as far as i'm concerned.

@kingnog sounds like you have a personal problem there buddy. Your experiences are NOT...I REPEAT "NOT" the same as other people. I've had somehwere around 4-6 rebates from COMPUSA over the last year..and i've gotten every single one of them. When it comes to rebates though..it isn't just COMPUSA...it's damn near every company. They don't have the staff to fill the demands for all the rebates...and they usually get HEAVILY behind. Some companies are quick..but i've experienced my share of problems too...everyone has when it comes to rebates...but to single out COMPUSA because you've had some bad experiences...and pass them off as if EVERYONE in the world has had the same...that's just not accurate.

  11. Oh gee I forgot about state tax and oh lets add in $3 for gas so its more $173 vs $132 or $40 more so you can get it that day (that's after the rebate). Plus you have to hope for that $20 rebate...and there are some places that are better at rebates than others...don't know about CompUSA. I just know they make it hard to call directly to the store which I find is a turn off.

I guess not every having recieved any defective merchandise on line, I'm taking some things for granted.

Also considering the Nutech 061 for $125 at 8x, I'm still standing by what i said, that your deal is a good deal maybe its a great "local" deal (although I swore I saw it a Best Buy for $169) ..just not an overall great deal.

  12. @ Vanderlow...that wasn't "MY" deal...it was COMPUSA's....I hear what your saying..I was just making a point. It's not always about dollars and cents. I'd agree if the difference were substantial. But for $20..if someone were to get a defective drive..they would really be S.O.L. I know when I read for a while about DVD BACKUPS..etc....I wanted to start working the day I bought the drive. My biggest concern with any online purchase is getting a defetive drive.

Hell...for all that....if it's such a big deal for the minute price differential..then just buy the A06 on Ebay. I'm sure AvLogic can't touch the deals going for $99 or less on Ebay. But again...to "me"...that's not an option either.
