    Looking to buy a used laptop for the wife for Xmas. probably get it off ebay or half.com. Brands would be either dell, gateway or sony. Is there anythiing i need to look out for? I noticed that most laptops come w/o an OS. Not sure what to pay for a PIII. I seen some that are $500 but why spend that when i could pay $200 and get a brand new DELL.

    I might be wrong with this, but you might try the Dell or Gateway websites and see if they sell 'reconditioned' laptops. At least you would have some sort of warranty.
