I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. I bought a cake of 4X DVD's (or so I thought). I put one in my Optorite DD0203 and Nero 6.0.0.19 will only let me burn at 2X. I haven't burned any discs and I'm tempted to return them because I feel cheated. After using DVDINFOPro to find out what type of discs they were, I find out that they are Princo. Had I known, I wouldn't have bought them. The media information for every disc (I had to read them all) spit out the information below. Is it possible to get these discs to burn at 4X or should I take them back because they aren't 4X?

You paid for 4x and did not get 4x and you are wondering if you should return them? Of course you should. It may have been an honest mistake.
Hello. -
Well, the reason why I ask for an opinion on this is because the write strategy on the media is 4X. I'm not that saavy when it comes to what should show on a 4X disc and I figured I'd ask.

This is why I recently quit using Princo. The 4x would even fail at 1x. Bad balance.

I recently bought a stack of Liquid Video 2x DVD-r discs from Cicuit City. I found they would not burn at 2X only 1X. So I checked them in DVDinfopro and found them to be

Whats the deal did they lie about the speed its clearly printed on the disc 2X. Or am I missing something. -
I am having the same problem with a 50pack of 4x princos i just bought from directshoponline.com/meritline.com. Labeled on package and discs and dics info as 4x, but only burn at 1X or 2x in some cases. I had had great results with a pack of 1X before, so went with these 4Xs. In fairness, i have gotton an email response from the vendor wanting to ask me about durner firmware/etc. So I might get the problem resolved. IMHO, be wary, go with RITEKs when possible

While I find this burn throttling happens more on Princo than any other disc my experience places certain burners at blame too. I burned 30+ DVD-R Princo discs on a Sony DRU-500A and NONE burned at 4X, all 2X. In my case I found the Sony would not burn any DVDs at 4X. Have you tried any other brands of media? Are you using a Sony burner by chance?

It depends on the Firmware in the Burner, I could not burn Princo's in my
LG 4040b at 4x, but with the firmware update, they all burn perfectly at 4x,
and no coasters.
LiteON are probably the best at "firmware updates" for different media. -

You didn't get ripped off. Those disks are known to do that in some burners. They are inexpensive but you may have to deal with 2x speed and possible compatibility problems. For faster and more reliable media, you have to pay more.
