You need a tool called DVD Decrypter. I would also suggest you read some of the guides to the left.

  5. leeegglestone, you can't just 'copy' a dvd disk to your hdd, you must 'Rip' it. This takes a special program designed to do such a thing. DVD Decrypter is one such program.

    Good luck.

If it is a store bought *DVD movie*, you must do like these other folks recommended. These disks have encryption that's meant to prevent you from copying the copyrighted materials, so special software like DVD Decrypter, or DVD Shrink is needed to disable the encryption. Tiz ok to backup your own DVD's, but illegal to copy a rented or otherwise (not-owned by you) DVD.

However, if you are trying to make a copy of a copy, you can drag and drop files off of it just like any other data disk, or you can use the copy disk function in most DVD burning software.

I am after someone that can give me step by step info on what to do as i have read all the info on the left and cannot understand it. I think i know how to use DVDDecrypter with a single layer disc but cannot backup on my recordnow software. If anyone can give me some help it will be greatly appreciated.

    lol w/ lordsmurf

    My sentiments exactly.

nismoGTR....I use DVD Decrypter in IFO mode for ripping the movie only off of my DVD's. Once upon a time, I decided to rip one, then burn it onto a DVD using Nero. However, the output files that decrypter gave me wouldn't work.

I found out that even tho the files were small enuff to fit onto a DVD+R, they needed to be authored in some way to make them compatible with my burning software's requirements. Here is what I did...step by step to accomplish this.

    1) As mentioned above....I ripped the movie-only in IFO mode.
    2) Ran the resulting files thru DVD2One. (This software is used primarily to compress a DVD-9 movie for burning onto a DVD-5 blank, but it ended up putting my DVD-5 files into a form that Nero preferred. My guess is that DVD Shrink would do this also...tho I haven't tried it.
    3) Burned the DVD using Nero v6, in DVD-Video mode, which resulted in an excellent copy.

Your RecordNow Dx can do the job as well as Nero did, but I'm guessing that, like Nero, the files need to be right. I prefer to use DVD2One when making backups, cuz it's super simple to use, and has managed to help me backup several DVD's without a single coaster, with excellent video quality. Even when I've compressed HUGE movies like the 3 hr LOTR movies, or the special effects packed Matrix flicks, the video quality was unbelievably good.

    Hope this helps.
