I am testing a Sony DSR370 camera with a Sony DSR-DU1 HD recorder which is attached and records digitally. You do not need tape. It can record up to three hours of high quality footage.
But, we are having a problem importing the footage into FCP3 or 4. The AV file is saved with a .DVD extension. What is this???
You can setup the device so that it appears as an external drive to the Mac. We have imported the ".DVD" type file into FCP. This is a crazy extension and I can't find out anything about it. The video plays without any problems but the audio is a nother story. It has to be rendered in the timeline. If the file is opened in the Viewer, it plays without any problems. But if we drag it into the timeline the audio turns red and just beeps and has to be rendered. Any changes in duration to the audio means another render. It is a pain in the kazoo.
Sony can't answer the problem and their documentation is very poor.
We are suppose to demo this camera and unit to a company tomorrow who relies on speedy editing and wants to try to circumvent the capturing of tapes.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem? It sounds like some audio setting has to be changed somewhere.
Andy

Any chance you could arrange to send me a .DVD file test clip? I might be able to help you.
