My department is going to start doing some videos and sales information on DVD for our 8000 sales reps. I was asked what brand of DVD-R media we should buy. I have purchased Optodisc DVD-R recently and have had luck with them.
However, We need to be sure that the media we choose works on the majority of stand alone players as well as laptops. I think we will have to go with a brand that is bigger like TDK, Memorex or other "name brands".

What are your suggestions? Also, we will be purchasing in blocks of 1000.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

  4. TDK or Ritek are the best bet. Some people place TDK higher but they're about the same. One difference thou is you can find TDK at brick & motar stores, while you pretty much have to buy Ritek online (at least I've never seen them from sale at a B&M store).

  5. I would say the Ritek (Ridata) G04, I have burned OVER 300 DVD's with them, and not one coaster, (Knock on wood)

If we put aside coasters, do any brands have compatability problems with any players? Or should I not be concerned about that.

Ritek if you don't want to spend too much otherwise the best DVD-R media is Taiyo-Yuden.

Best prices I've seen for Taiyo-Yuden is at RIMA.COM

I wanted to add that according to another thread here on this website that lately it seems the new (very new) packs of TDK 2x DVD-R discs are actually the Ritek G04 4x DVD-R discs.

However it sounds like there are still the "older" packs around that are the TDK made 2x DVD-R discs and from what people are saying you can't tell from the packaging.

I find Optodisc DVD-R to have the highest compatibility of all media, though not as perfect as Ritek or Maxell.

The Optodisc has been approved for far more devices than any other media.

Just be warned it is not coaster-free media.
