I just recently ordered a 25 pack of Ritek G03 DVD-R's with the silver on top and purple bottom. I tried one out and I had an error burning with only about 10 min. to go. (im buring about 4.02GB) so I try another disc and the same thing happens but it gets alittle further then the last one. So I change from RecordNowDX to Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD and I try a DVD-RW to see if its the discs or my computer, and the -RW works great. So I suppose it was RecordNowDX and so I try another Ritek and it says it burned successfully, alright then I try it in my comptuer and it is recognized but my standalone wont have anything to do with it and the disc is alittle unstable on my computer. So I try one more and it fails 90% through the burn. I've made about 4 duds now. Are these discs compatible with my burner (DRU-510A) or are they just a bad pack? Should I return them or am I doing something wrong? Any help will greatly be appreciated![]()
thanks,
Ryan

I don't know if this is any help - but I have the OEM version of that drive (dwu14a) and I just bought the same pack of RITEK. I made a few coasters trying to burn at 4X. It wasn't until I dialed down the speed a bit (2X i think) that I started to get sucessful burns. Using DVDShrink and Copy2DVD BTW.

I am burning them at 1X and I checked to see if they were Riteks and DVD Dycripter siad they were. I called Supermediastore.com and they said I could return them. I just hope I dont get another pack like this if it is the disks.

With my Pioneer A04 I burned probably 200 Ritek G03's from Supermediastore.
With the v1.31 pioneer firmware the first 100 i did at 2x were pretty much problem free. These had the "Y" in the G03 header.
The second batch of 100 were the GO3 "7"'s. These I started having break up problems toward the end of discs when played back. Going to firmware v1.4 solved this problem, but it also forced the burning to only 1x.
The G03 discs IMO aren't that great as the quality seems to shift around depending on batch.
I recently upgraded to a Pioneer 106 and picked up some G04 discs from Supermedia.
I've burned about 40 so far at 4X and havent had a problem yet. The G04 are excellent discs.

I've never had an issue with any Riteks reguarless of if the were the Ps or 7s or whatever those codes are.
Actually I had a few bad riteks, but as it turned out my burner was at fault.
If they offer to exchange the disc I'd take them up on it, can't hurt.
