  1. i am planning on purchasing the panasonic E60 and dubbing my vcr tapes to dvd. However many of my tapes have what i would call blank spots or the "blue screen" from where i stopped the recording on the tape and returned to recording later
my question is when i am copying these tapes with the "blue screen" blank spot what will happen on the dvd? will it read it as a "chapter" or what?
    thanks in advance

Generally, the 'blue screen' you mention is a result of your VCR or TV. If the newer VCR's don't have a video signal, they revert to 'blue screen' which is better than static. But an editing program, which you will probably need anyway, will eliminate the blank spots or add a transitiion to your video. If not, they will still be blank spots.

If you're capturing video from your vcr (or whatever) and the screen goes blue then your captured movie will have a big long blue screen captured right along with it. The capture program will think this is just another part of your movie, the dvd player will think the same thing and display this blue screen without any problems. Your mpeg2 codec, if captured as varable bit rate, will enjoy this part of the movie because if will get some pretty good compression ratios at those points. The dvd will not think it's a chapter, but it might think you're taste in video is a little strange. (hehe )

I just let the capture roll right on through such stuff then edit those portions out with my producing program. That saves space on my dvd disk for real video and I don't haft to explain anything to those who watch it. (mainly my wife )

    Good luck.
