Hi, although this is my first post here, i'm not new to video editing etc, been doing this for over a couple of years, using guides from this site.

But what i can't seem to find (here or anywere else) is how to PROPERLY mux a ac3 with an m2v file...

Here's what i've done, i'll try to explain everything as good as i can:

    1. First of all I had an XviD, 2 parts with 5.1 ac3 sound.
And 2 srt subs for both parts

What i want to create :

I want to make a DVD (mpg file ) to later author with Tmpg DVD author, WITH the orignal ac3 5.1 sound from the XviD.

(I know i can use PX3Convert to make a wav file out of the ac3, but that gives me 2 chan audio and i want to have the 5.1 audio.)

    2. I joined the xvids together using virtualdub, with direct streamcopy for both audio and video.

    3. I resynced and put together the 2 subs, so they run properly the entire joined XviD.

    4. I converted the video, with subs (using direct vobsub), with Tmpgenc plus. And created an elementary stream. (video only)
using a guide from this site. So i get the m2v file.

    5. I ripped the ac3 sound off the (joined) XviD,with vdub.

    6. I used ac3 fix to get rid of the wav header vdub puts in.

    7. So resulting: i now have a m2v file (wich plays perfect, not streched or anything) and a ac3 file

    Well here's my problem:
How to get them together to create an "author-able" (mpg) file?

I already tried bbmpg, works good, got a video with both audio and video in sync. BUT the picture becomes out of size (cropped) so its stretched now I can't seem to find proper settings for bbpmg to fix this...

I also tried the MPGtools in tmpgenc, but even when i set priority @ 2 on the Directshow Multimedia Filereader (VFapi plugin), it just wont accept the ac3 file (ac3fixed or not, tried both)

Is there any other tool i can use to do this?

without losing the aspect ratio of my movie, resulting in a stretched mpg off course.

Would be nice if someone could provide me with some help here, or experiances with this matter.

    ThnX already!

Didn't think of that.. i have the prog.

Ok i did that, but now i have the 5 vobs with ifo etc.
but i want chapters as well...

I know it can be done with ifoedit, but than u have to wright a file wich contains the chapterpoints or something, dunno how to do that...

Can i re-author the vobs with another prog?

  4. If you use DVD Maestro to author, you can import the m2v and ac3 and put them on to a DVD without having to mux an ac3 with the m2v. (In other words you don't need a .mpg file).

There are many authoring programs out there that will allow you to import your M2V and AC-3 without the need to mux them together first.

The aforementioned DVDLab does this as does TMPGEnc DVD AUTHOR.

Those are probably two of the best out there right now although I personally had audio sync problems with DVDLab which I am pretty much sure was due to the way I encoded the M2V in TMPGEnc.

Not that *I* or *TMPGEnc* did anything wrong but I don't think DVDLab likes the way TMPGEnc does 23.976fps 3:2 pulldown encoding.

Same files authored without sync issues in SpruceUP and TMPGEnc DVD Author so that is why I blame DVDLab over TMPGEnc.

    ThnX for your answers!

    I tried the following:

since dvdmeastro is impossible to find :X

i used dvdlab, nice tool btw! And i read some guides and everything.
I made my dvd with chapters menu etc. i putted the ac3 and the m2v in, dvdlab says OK @ file status, BUT when my dvd is finished and i try to play it with powerdvd, the sound on the menu's (those are wavs) work perfectly, menu looks smooth, only problem is that when i play the main movie, there's no sound at all

    How could this happen???

  7. I have run into this problem as well....

I had to use the "audio transcode" on the ac3 file to make it an mpa file, then I changed it to WAV using TMPGEnc. Worked perfectly after that. I didn't notice any loss in quality, but perhaps the audiophiles in here would say otherwise.

I know what u mean, but if u transcode it to mpa first and then to wav (u could just convert it straight to wav with PX3Convert) it still becomes 2 channel audio, what i want is the dolby 5.1 sound from the original XviD.

atm i'm trying to create a multiaudio dvd with both the ac3 as well as the 2 channel (ac3->wav converted) file, and then burn it to check what my dvd player does...

  9. DVD lab does seem to have, shall we say, issues, when you use different audio formats for Menus and Main movie. Try making your menu background audio AC3 too, 2channel should suffice.
Use Besweet to create this from the wav file.

thnx for the tip! i'll try that!

I also tried something else... with the 2 chan audio (converted from the original ac3) i thought lets see what happens when i just make a 2 chan dvd, so i did everything the same as with the ac3, created menu's etc only instead of the ac3 i ripped from the avi i used the wav file i created from that ac3...

and guess what? dvd works fine, only now the audio is out of sync... it seems that with the encoding from the m2v file, tmpgenc put a few extra seconds in, so now the audio is later than the video...

I think i might as well stuck with making system streams out of avi files instead of elementery, cause this is not the first time i got off-sync problems...

  11. ElayZ -

Did you try XMuxer? There used to be an entry in the tools section but I don't see it anymore or just can't find it. It's a simple tool but has worked well for me to do what you're saying.

    [edit:]

*wait* - I take that back - just reading the site a little closer now and it says it can't do AC3 ..I thought I did ac3 but it must have been another format...sorry

I left the link though in case this tool helps you w/ other projects
