  1. Good Day. just borrowed my friend's Sony Digital8 camcorder. Just wanted to know if I record video to hi-8 format will I be able to transfer my footage to my pc using the camera's i.link(firewire)port? I'm also aware that my video cassette can record both to hi-8(120min) and Digital8 (60min) format.

The reason why I choose the hi-8 is because it can record 2 hours of video.

By the way my PC has a firewire port.

tnx. Any info or help will be appreciated

Most Digital 8 cameras will convert analog automatically. I suggest that you test the ilink first with a digital tape, then you know that everthing is setup with the camera and pc.

  3. It depends on the camera model, lower-end Digital8 models wont do a direct digital out from a Hi8 source tape, higher end models will. Some capture programs need a timecode (of which Hi8 has none), others do not. I have played a Hi8 tape through my SonyDigital8 camera into iMovie on my mac (Final Cut Pro, wouldn't accept it). Do a little research and you could get your answers. You've got a good chance that it will work.

    Good Luck

  4. Thank you very much for the info guys.

If I may also ask: I have a dv avi file and have loaded it to premiere 6.5. When i tried to export it to vcd using premiere's built in adobe mpeg encoder it has no problems. but when i try to export it to dvd using again adobe premiere's encoder, the resulting picture is inverted.

    Hope you guys could help.

    tnx. God Bless

  5. Try encoding the DV avi with TMPGENC...just a thought...you can still get the free version with limited mpg2 encoding...I think.

  6. Sorry but have to do a lot of editing with the dvavi file in premiere and have to use premiere's built in encoder to avoid saving to another avi file which is to big and won't overcome the file size limitation of windows fat32 system. I don't know how to frameserve to tmpg via premiere also.

    tnx for the info though.
