ADVC-100 questions please help.

I just bought a new ADVC-100 on ebay for $210.

While waiting for my Firewire card to arrive I have a few questions to ask :

1. How do you hook up ADVC100 to Firewall card using the cable came with it with 6pin and 4pin connector. I know the firewire call comes with three 6pin ports, the ADVC-100 does have an I/O 4pin DV connection in the front, is that where I connect the 4pin connector to?

2. What is the best software you capture it to DV files? and for editing and DVD Author what are good software you use?

3. What are software allow you to capture VHS, hi8 tapes, LaserDisc and to convert directly to MPEG2 or to DVD format (VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS)?
I will look into the Guide section of this site and Doom9 but I like to hear from your experiences.

4. AN1 try to capture from DirecTV? How you hook it up? my Receiver have bothe S-VIDEO and Yellow/Red/black connetor.

5. How do you know when to stop capture from the source unattended?
is there away to automate it or set a timmer?

1. thats where i plug mine in
2. i capture with scenalyzer live, edit with vdub or premiere and author with many right now
