I just discovered a shipment of Longten unbranded 4x DVD-R Media at my local retailer. They go for about $1.89(on sale) Canadian as singles. He didn't have 25 or 50 packages in stock yet. I bought several singles to try.Has anyone heard about or tried this brand of media? Experiences, and opinions requested.

I use the longten 4x here in the UK. They are sold here by bigpockets.co.uk as their own 4x brand. I have a pioneer 105 and back up dvds and create my own from vhs source. They burn fine at 4x and I've never had a coaster yet after 50+ burns.

Look about half way down on the page, there is a kprobe for them there, or at least a disc using their code. Seems like it might be an OK disc, but I think I've heard of another disc online with thats the same disc but cheaper, couldn't tell you who it is that has them but I'm fairly sure they are out there. -
Based on the graph, they're perhaps a little worse than okay. Apparently they're are 2x Longtens that are cheaper. They might be the ones you're referring to. I'll keep you guys informed about the Longtens. Hopefully I won't have any problems. Thanks for the info.

I've seen disc on that graph go up like that and still run fine. It depends alot on your player, it doesn't max out any which is good.
check out these and keep in mind all of them worked fine for me.

If you read this Robert Black...then you'll know on your own that you are getting ripped off. These disks "4x" are being sold under the Matrix/Speedy name at shop4tech for as low as .93 cents a piece.
But there is a good reason they are that low priced......and in addition to them being crap quality....they also don't EVER burn @4x in the Sony burners. Some other non-certified 4x media at least occasionally burns @4x ...but I never got any of these to burn @4x under any circumstances...and with the number of problems burning these @2x...i wouldn't want to burn them @4x anyway.
What burner to you have Robert? Chances are you can only burn these @2x anyway....chances are you won't be able to...you may see the burn process START OUT @4x,...but chances are it will drop down to 2x or less. At the very least...the disks are much cheaper at shop4tech then what you are currently paying...but I wouldn't reccomend these disks to an enemy. -
Well, that's why I only bought a few samples, thankfully. I burned one today, in my Pioneer 105. It started off at 4x, all right, but in fact it did drop down to 2 x. The resulting film did play in my two standalones. I haven't tried it on the computer yet. In my Vsonic standalone they're was one instance of a two second flutter about two thirds of the way through the film. But other than that no problems. That 93cent U.S price per disc, is obviously based on packages of 25,50 or more. These were singles. Even if the packages were available at that price(per disc) I sure as hell wouldn't have bought one. Price aside,I understand it's better to proceed with caution when trying out a lot of this media from Taiwan. I'd rather pay a little more, and sample a few, than be out of pocket for a lot more, and have a collection of coasters.

Yes, yes. These discs are crap. I have used several(unfortunately) of them and they all studder or freeze at the end of the film.
Sorry
