  1. I've been trying FOREVER to get my newly authored DVD to burn. I've managed to compile it and make the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders which together only add up to 4.67 GB or 5,022,046,208 bytes. Is there something I don't know about that adds .04 of a gig? I've tried burning in Nero, DVD Author, and DVDlab, but still no success. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in Advance,

    A DVD is approx 4.7 X 1,000,000,000 bytes....

As we all should know, a true megebyte is 1,048,576 bytes and a true gigabyte is 1,073,741,824 bytes.

Marketing boffins like to use 1,000,000 and a megabyte and 1,000,000,000 as a gigabyte which gives you inflated sizes.

4,700,000,000 (marketing gigabytes) / 1,073,741,824 (real gigabyte) gives you ~4.377 real gigabytes...or the size you MUST keep your DVD project under in order to fit it onto a DVD-R.

All hope isn't lost though, run your VIDEO_TS folder through DVDShrink(free) or DVD2One(not free) to re-size it to the proper size (means you don't have to spend time re-encoding).

Personally I now don't bother working out my DVD sizes anymore. I encode my video high quality and high bitrate and compile my project....if it comes in over 4.3GB I just run it through DVDShrink now to get the right size......excelent little tool.
