Haven't seen an advertised source for these in Canada though I can find the DVD and CD burners all over the place. I also want to know if this can handle DVD-RAM disks? As well, how does it handle PAL anamorphic widescreen on NTSC TVs? Depending on the naswers, I may cancel my layaway order of a Malata DVP-500P even though that player is only $100CAD. I don't have any info on the Malata at all. No one seems to know anything about it, including at this site...

  2. Hello fellow Canadian.I'm in the same boat.If you find one of these players(lite-on LVD 2001 player)in Canada could you let me know.I've looked everywhere.People look at me like I'm from another planet when I go into the store and ask for a DivX/Meg4 player.I have over 100 DivX movies(all back-ups of course) that I would like to watch on my T.V.

  3. It is not available in Canada yet. I talked to the sales manager at the Liteon head office (he called me back and was very interested to hear that the Phomaster has good buzz "on the street") three days ago and he said they will be shipping to the Canadian distributor "Supercom" in mid-August. I do not yet know who will be retailing it in Canada.

I guess I can wait a few weeks. I hope they price them low like pcclub.

If LiteOn burners are not available in Canada, then what's this? www.CanadaComputers.com Go to the DVD-RW link. It may not be the LVD model, but it looks good to me.

We were talking about standalone DVD players, not computer DVD burners. The LVD-2001 isn't in the country yet as the distributor won't have them til mid August...

Hi guys, any further information about LVD-2001 in Canada? I am looking for it too. Have checked with A&BSound, Futureshop and some local stores but no luck. Does anyone know where I can grab one? Thanks a lot!

  10. I could'nt wait, this Canadian bought one off ebay.$300.00 Canadian.I was very impressed with the quality. It plays my DivX movies flawlessly. The DivX picture is of DVD quality,or close to it.However it does not support Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS Audio for DVDs.Both my old DVD players support it.Maybe I'm doing something wrong.I don't know if I'm willing to sacrifice DVD sound quality just to watch DivX/Mpeg4 movies.I think I'm going to swap my Lite-on 2001 player with my old DVD player, otherwise my entertainment system will be useless.
Hopefully Lite-on will get it together on their next product of DVD players.
Like DUH! sould'nt they know by now what the consumer wants?

Finally I drove to Seattle and got one from PCClub, totally USD$170.
Amazing product! Waiting for the firmware update so that it can support subtitle.

  12. I stand corrected.I owe Lite-on an apology. After adjusting some audio settings on the 2001 LVD player I was able to get both the 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS working.I guess a little patience was all I needed.
Anyway it's a great player and well worth the money. To bad they are'nt available in Canada yet bacause somebody would make a fortune.

  14. Follow Canadians, I just got my Liteon LVD-2001 from Vancouver from ncix.com. Plays most of my divx movies after I upgraded it to version .227. Currently they have it for sale for $183.98. I am definitely not disappointed with this amazing player.

  15. I bought the same yesterday and upgraded to .229. It plays everything I've thrown at it so far & navigation is a lot nicer than my old player. The price on their website is still $195 cdn so be sure to drop in to the store if you are able.

Subscribe to NCIX's once-a-week specials mailing list and you'll be able to get it for $179 now. I bought mine at $183, and they keep dropping...
