  1. hi all i have used dvdshrink 3 beta 5 to rip and compress movies to a hd and i am now at the burning stage, but in the past i have tried burning these files to dvd as dvd video (nero55xx) and the equivalent in recordnow, easy cd creator 5 and many other burning progs. but it always seems to be rejected by my standalone dvd player. so wot i would like to know is :-

1)do i need to burn as data or video compilation ?
2)are there any special settings ie. udf etc ?

3)when nero 55xx or other burning apps say it doesnt conform is it safe to continue...will the resulting movie play on my standalone player ?

Well it sounds like you got bigger problems than burning problems.

I mean you have used 3 different burning apps and NOTHING works on your stand alone ...

    SO ...

Are you sure that your stand alone DVD player isn't the problem?

Not all stand alone DVD players are compatable with DVD-R and/or DVD+R discs.

Another possible problem could be media related.

The easiest way to test that would be to BUY a small pack of quality media like the MADE IN JAPAN FUJI discs you can buy at BEST BUY or the MAXELL discs that also are often at BEST BUY or maybe some RITEK media etc.

    P.S.
I always use ImgTool Classic and then DVD Decrypter ... it is a combo that you cannot go wrong with ... but I suspect something else is wrong here since you've already been through 3 burning apps and 1 of the 3 (RecordNowMax) is highly regarded around here.

Sounds to me like you need to by a new standalone player that supports the media.

  4. well im pretty certain its not a media problem cos i tried :-

    datawrite greytops 2x dvd-r
    datawrite redtopd 4x dvd-r
    datawrite dvd+r 2x
    datasafe dvd+rw 2.4x
    datawrite greentop dvd-rw 2x
    bulkpaq orange tops gen 4 dvd-r 4x
    whitelabel 2x dvd-r
    infiniti 2.4x dvd+rw
    datawrite yellowtops dvd-r

and so far all the above media have burned sucessfully doing a backup of another backup. also i have had mixed results with RW, mainly cos the dvd player doesnt recognise the disc type. but when copying backups to dvd rw they work fine. my dvd player is a philips 711.

    You serious ?

Let's see - blank media, 0.99p each. New DVD player, anywhere from £60 to £450. I'm damned if I would change a perfectly good player when just changing my brand of blank makes all the difference.

Tell me, do you replace your car every time you run out of petrol ?

This is where you read to far into what was said. A lot of people will simply have to go buy a new DVD player. In the States they are far cheaper. I lived in England for 5 years. I understand your pricing problem there. People come to this site with all sorts of problems. many simply just need to buy a player that will support what they are trying to play. The other problem arises by the method or burning program they are using. leave out the AUDIO_TS folder and some players won't recognize the disk. I have not had one single DVD Player not play a DVD wrote to DVDR+ and DVDR- using Verbatim, TDK, Memorex or Fuji media. Process of elimination, Player-Media-Burning Program or you just may have a bad DSVD Writer (possible but unlikely). So next time think before you post, perfectly good player doesn't mean nothing if if can't play your back-up disks. All the media you listed in my book are low end and budget good for data only! Spend a little more and eliminate your problem. And what the heck does a vehicle running out of petrol got to do with a DVD Player not playing what he puts into it. You need to stick to watching Coronantion Street and Cille Black "Surprise Surprise".l

You've been away longer than 2 weeks. I even have more posts than you. And go fix your Straw roof!

  9. Oh, stop - you'll be measuring your penis in order to challenge me about that next.

If you can't take the odd knock here once in a while you're in the wrong place and it's you who should consider their posts a bit more carefully. You're too ashamed to even post under your real name...

Typical Brit. Stuck on a Ring Road and can't get off! TV Tax paid up this year? No tax here. Hose tax? Hmm that one made no sense. MOT on a bike? What next. Real name JD Izzy!

  11. Typical yank - everything is bigger and better in the States, isn't it ?

Just Like the gun and drugs problems, for example. Quite frankly, you can keep those.

Anyway, what do you mean "no tax" ? Do you cook your books ? I hate to think how much your little wargames in Iraq are going to cost you in increased revenue.

If you want to get personal, take it off the boards. Send me a PM, although I do reserve the right to ignore mails sent to that...
