Would like to put vcd/svcd onto dvd+r so they will play in Playstation2 consoles. I have spent hours trying to find some detailed threads, however cannot find one that explains the proceedure.
I've read the guides on converting svcd to dvd; however that is for stand alone dvd players, not Playstation2. In a seperate post, deadbeat says "it all boils down to how u put them onto disk in the first place and i dont mean burning it." However he leaves us with that riddle - with no follow-up or explaination.![]()
Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Dont waste your breath ive been trying to find the same thing out for some time.
I dont know if you just want to know how to put em on the disc or how to actually make em play on the ps2. The putting on the disc is the easy part, i cant make em play on my ps2 for shit and this place is no help with resolving that issue. to conver the vcd/svcd onto a dvd is easy just go to the guides section and look for SVCD to DVD conversion.eat me balls! -
My V7 PS2 is playing movies on DVD-R/RW that were originally VCD REALLY well. I use TMPGEnc DVD Author, load the MPEG's up...set up chapter breaks, play around with the Menu for a bit and author. I just burnt it like I would then burn any normal DVD files after using DVD-Shrink or anything like that with Nero 5.5.10.50 or so, works great for me. I just suggest testing with an RW first, saved me a lot of frustration over coasters.

Acme420 - I read over the svcd to dvd tutorials, have no problem with that part of the process. Trying to find out the exact proceedure for authoring the DVD+R so it will be playable on the Playstation2.
DeleriumMDK - Can you please let us know what settings you are using when authoring in TMPGEnc DVD Author. Also, you suggested to test with a dvd-rw, what brand of dvd-rw are you using? I was under the impression that some rw's will not work on Psx2, want to make sure I get the correct brand. -
There is apparently some variation in how the different PS2 models will handle DVD. Mine is a V4, plays -R well, +R sporadically. Two different brands of Media of each type and 2 burning softwares, its pretty consistent. SVCD may not play as it is a non-standard resolution. 352x240, 352x480, 720x480 are all valid resolutions. I've only done the last two, -R nearly perfect, +R often't won't recognize disk, plays all or some without audio, sticks, etc.

Every setting I used was default in TMPGEnc DVD Author. I am using an Opto-Disc DVD-RW. It came with my Pioneer DVR-104 (Cendyne re-badged). PS2 is picky about RW media for video game backups, but I don't think its picky at all for movie playback. My V7 plays back -R, -RW, +R and +RW all with no trouble for movies...

Oh and SVCD's authored to DVD compliant files won't play back on the PS2. It only worked with VCD files that were authored to DVD for me.

I would say that with the PS2, it is normally a much better idea to go with DVD-R than +R, although if you have a v5 + console, or the new Silver model, then obviously it won't make any difference.
The same also applies to +RW and -RW. My PS2 will not run either as the laser is still set to factory standard, but any model can with a slight adjustment to the laser pot. If you're interested in learning more about this, then I would say maybe visit somewhere like www.ps2newz.net but it is a hardware modification, so if you're gonna do it, make sure that you know all the info first. 8) -
I have a V1. plays everything I put in it so far. I don't use RW so can't say on that but I use +R all the time and it never fails to play. hell it played disks that my other players wouldn't play before I found the correct method to burn.
