  1. LordSmurf Would you be willing to post other capture guides? For instance if I do a write up on how to properly capture interlaced video at 480x480 with the Windows Media 9 format. Would you post it on your site? Of course you would want to try out the settings first but I think you will be surprised. Everyone goes to your site for the best mpg configurations but that is not always the best format considering all of the new DVD players that are coming out that will play other formats. Just a thought and it would save you the time of playing with WMV9 unless you have already figured out how to optimize that codec? Let me know if you are interested.

I accept guides if I find them useful for the objectives of my site; which is to convert video from older sources and convert to DVD or other disc formats for playing on the current generation video equipment.

And even then, it's mostly for converting home movies, cartoons and tv shows, old VHS tapes, and direct captures from tv and variant broadcast sources.

I'm not overly fond of computer-only formats or "backing up" DVDs.

As far as my settings not being perfect for everybody, that's a given. They're just "guides" on how to get up and running with good results, but even I have a dozen or more templates (in each program I use) for different uses. I just posted my common ones in the example.

If you have something you'd like to submit, send it my way. I can look it over and see how well it fits into the overall theme of my site. And I'll test before posting.

And don't forget, this site takes guides too. The only reason I even made lordsmurf.com was to fill in the gaps I found here (as well as streamline a few concepts and methods that constantly confuses newbies). I made the thing I wished I'd have had back in 2001 when I got my first ATI card.

  3. Cool! I will see what I can get together. Basically I can do a write up and include the profile file and that is all anyone will need. Also come January Microsoft's Windows Media 9 will no longer be a computer only format. That alone makes it a viable choice for capturing and encoding!
