DVDXCOPY Express backups freezing near end of movie, is this a software issue or system issue?. Recently i backed up my rocky movies 1 to 5 and found that the first 4 freeze near the end and dont recover, the 5th one seems ok, ive had the same problem with a lot of my copies. Anyone know whats the cause or the cure?![]()

From reading the posts on these forums since I joined, which hasn't been for very long, it usually appears that problems such as yours are caused by bad media more often than not. If you are using cheap disks, try buying some more expensive ones and see if it helps.

I have a similar problem ebenton,
Everything was going fine, all copies were working flawlesley then it was like, I woke up one morning, went to backup a movie & found it would play fine until about 3 quarters of the way through & then just started locking up & skipping. I tested the disc on DVDinfo & found a massive amount of read errors at the 3 quarter mark. Someone suggested a windows update may be the culprit because he had this problem, he suggested I roll back my system (XP Professional) to a date of which I was having success. I did this, & now I only get a small amount of read errors at the end of the disc, but these copies still lock up at the 3 quarter mark. I rip using decrypter, shrink with DVD shrink, correct sectors with IFO edit, create an image file using Img tool then burn at 4 X with Decrypter. Im going to buy another brand of media to try but I really dont think this problem lies there. Why would 25 discs burn correctly then all of a sudden start giving problems? Let me know if you resolve this problem please... -
I am not saying it *is* bad media. Neither am I agreeing that it could not possibly be.
The fact that 25 disks burned fine and then the next ones would not burn successfully does not necessarily mean that the disks are not bad. Inconsistent quality with some brands can cause inconsistent results. If you bought a pack of 25 and used them all successfully, and then opened another pack of 25 and they wouldn't burn; could mean that the second pack was of lesser quality than the first one. Similarly, the first 25 off of a 50 or 100-pack could burn fine, and the next ones could be from a different lot or whatever, and not be very good at all.
The thing that makes crappy media crappy is not that they *never* burn, it's that they *sometimes* burn and *sometimes* don't. And it's not necessarily a nice random smattering of bad disks, like 2 good, 1 bad, 4 good, 2 bad, etc. etc. Sometimes it could be 25 good, 5 bad. You never know. It's inconsistent. -
Do you guys put stikers on top of your Backups?
i say this because my friends machine has the same problem (freezing) when it comes to playing backups with stickers on the top but with out the stickers on they play fine
weird ehh -

Why pay when you can do the whole backing up thing for free & get really good results -
Even if you use nothing but free tools, you could reduce the decrypter-to-DVD Shrink-to-IFOedit-to-IMGtool part of the process to just using DVD Shrink, and then burn using decrypter.

Wouldn't it be great if there was some form of "Quality Assurance" on DVD media before it hit the shelves?
It was a media issue!! I bought a different brand & they have all worked perfectly now. Im lucky though, they're a different brand but they have the same Princo Dye!! Didn't realise as they were so much cheaper than the Dud batch I bought. But the full 4.7g works & thats the main thing.
The brand is Shintaro, the dud's were Laser branded.. -
Dude, get Ritek G04's from Supermediastore.com. THey are the bomb, and are the best I've used so far (out of 4 different brands & speeds) in my Pioneer DVR-105. 8)
