  1. I found it for $37 w/free shipping.

I like the Slot Load feature, but ripping is the most important... min: 6x rip
I'm looking for a fast Ripper.

What is some other brand that is fast and cheap (I know liton, about 8-10x right?).

    Thank you,

I did try searching, but no luck founding an answer. Just found one thread that didn't really state Rip Speed on the unit.

16x. The same speed as most DVD players. It mostly depends on your ripping software. I personally don't like slot feeds as there is more chances of damaging your disk than in tray type drives. I have used several DVD drives and they all rip at the same speed with the same software.

  3. Really?

because from what I heard, usually the name brands have their DVD Rom Cap at 2x Ripping.

My new Toshiba is max at 2x.
    Old Toshiba max at 6x.

Actually, I was assuming it was the same as the max speed of the drive. I just ripped "Jackass", an 84 minute movie in 13 minutes with a Toshiba SD 3109 DVD ROM. The resulting file was 4.19GB and my ripping speed varied from 3800 to 5200KB/sec. If my math is right, that would be a little over 6X. I have noticed it varies with the movie, and I don't know how much overhead from processing and writing to the HD is involved. I know when I tried to rip with my DVD burner it was much slower, around 2000KB/sec. I'll try a search also on 'ripping speed' to see if I can find anything.

EDIT: Apparently 15 minutes is a good rip speed. I'm guessing that is about 6X. Seems DVD burners are mostly set at 2X to slow copying?. There are some firmware mods to improve this, depending on the model. Not much imformation on individual models of DVD ROM's about ripping speed, but there are some tips to improve it in this forum. Sorry for the confusion.
