  1. I've heard that ripping a DVD causes a lot of wear & tear on your DVD drive. Is this true? I'm planning on buying a DVD burner and might use my DVD-ROM drive for ripping but I'd have to pull out my CD burner. If the wear and tear is a big issue, I'd like to leave each drive to do their own job. Thanks for any assistance,

I guess it really depends on how many rips you plan to do. If you're really going to go into production then I recommend keeping a dedicated ripping drive.

BTW, I believe drives like liteon can rip faster as most writers are locked at 2x.

  3. i would have thought that such products are rated in terms of hours eg like a usb optical mouse....something like 3000 hours until the laser light burns out.....maybe there is something like that....
How long could we maintain? I wondered. How long until one of us starts raving and jabbering at this boy? What will he think then?

  4. I never understood this issue. Whether "ripping" a disc or watching it, it's the same thing. Disc is spinning and laser moving. If i've missed something please tell me.

Well, I'm a big firewire user, so I would put the DVD-ROM or CDRW into a firewire box and use it external. Or just buy an external DVD writer when the time comes, agian I would use firewire for it's connection.
