  1. I thought I'd give nero a try because it's so famous and everything, but was quite disappointed to discover that it only has burn speeds of 2,4 and 8.
My burner is not that great and when burning music cds it buffer underruns at 2X. I tried other programs at 1X and the cd was ok. Data cds dosen't seem to be a problem with Nero, but I'd rather it had offered me the choice.
Is this because it's the Demo? Or is the full version any different?

Nero is rather wise in that it will not only detect the maximum speed of your burner, but the speed the CD is rated at. I found this out after installing a Yamaha 16x burner for a friend, and we got all pissed off that Nero wouldn't let us burn past 8x. Turned out that the CDs were only rated for 8x.
The same holds true for my new ACER 20x10x40 - If the CD's are only rated for a speed of up to 16x, then thats all nero will let me do. You could look at it like this: it saves you the hassle of making coasters.
Oh dear. This calls for a very special blend of psychology ... and EXTREME VIOLENCE.

  3. So thats why. They just assume we all have super burners. Guess I'll try adaptec, but I don't like the idea of it taking 200mb of space.

  5. I don't think you understood, but none of the burning options offer me 1X speed at all. Only 2, 4 and 8.
