  1. Hello,

    I presume this question has been already asked different times, but I am still stuck with VOB files. ulead DVD workshop AC3 software does only accept MPEG 1 and MPEG2 files, no VOB's.

    I would like to create DVD's with music video clips. Most of them are in Dolby Digital 2.0 or 5.1. I would like to find an authoring software that accepts this format. I thought I was saved by purchasing Ulead Workshop, but it does accept AC3 but no VOB files,

    Is there an easy way to transfer VOB into MPEG2 ? I already tried to download MPEGWorks2 software but could not be able to open it. Any suggestion to help me with this ? Or any another software, I already downloaded so many things that did not work.

    Thank you

    Emmanuel

    Virtual Dub mod accepts VOBs and can frameserve to TMPGEnc to encode to MPEG.

  4. Hi,

    Thank for your answer.

    How do you import VOB's with DVD Workshop ? I tried and each time it was said "format not compatible". I asked Ulead and they confirmed it as not possible to use VOB with this software. If you have a trick, please tell me, I am so curious.....

    Thank you

    Demultiplex the vob to mpv and ac3 files that you can import in ulead workshop ac3.

    You can demultiplex with tmpgenc, vobedit.

    I think I had to change to name to MPG first.
    The file showed up in the little thumbnail . (my VOB has MP2 audio)

    Please follow Foo's tip.

    Rename the .VOB extension to .MPG.

    Then try the import.

  10. Hello,

    I tried to rename VOB's into MPG's files. It does not work.
    When I have a file like XXXX.vob and then , I rename it in XXXX.mpg,
    it works but when I import the file, my software says "cannot import XXXX.mpg.VOB".... This means my name change does not work.
    Or did I do the wrong way ?

    Any ideas ?

    I've never had success with renaming vobs. Only tried it once as a test, with Ulead MediaStudio Pro and it renamed all the files in the folder! :cO

    Never again.

    If you want to do it the other way go with Vobedit and extract the video & audio streams.

    Here's how I have managed to get around that issue on my Windows XP computer:

    1. I opened Microsoft Windows Media Player - I have version eight - and I clicked FILE > OPEN and browsed to the location of the .VOB file and opened the video;

    2. I then clicked FILE > SAVE AS and renamed the file to have a .MPG extension;

    3. Now - this file with the .MPG extension is recognized by Ulead DVD WORKSHOP and I am able to import it.

    I just tried with a file that originated on a Panasonic DMR-E50 player/recorder - and was recorded with AC-3 audio.

    The AC-3 audio imported into Ulead DVD Workshop with AC-3 audio intact and it played in the preview window.

    These steps worked for me.

    I hope they work for you as well.

    Hmmm. Specialist - any idea why I can't use ANY AC3 in all 3 of my Ulead products?

    I've done 0 to 1 the change to all .ini files and yet, VS7, MSPro and Workshop refuse them.

    I must have unique versions or something :c) Things others accomplish just don't work for me.

    AC-3 works great here.

    I have:

    1. Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.01;

    2. Ulead DVD WORKSHOP (AC-3 version);

    3. Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 "LE" version (AC-3 enabled).

    The AC-3 files I import originate on Panasonic player/recorders and are only 2-channel stereo AC-3 files.

    No problems here on three workstations.

    What other video/audio software have you installed on your computer?

    Is it it possible you installed a codec pack?

    According to Microsoft:

    "Nimo and Tsunami codec packs are untested compilations of various
    codecs and filters commonly used on the Internet."

    "Incompatibilities are known to exist with some of the components in
    the packs."

    "The incompatibilities can cause serious playback issues in Windows
    Media Player and other multimedia programs, lead to system corruption,
    and make it difficult for Microsoft Support to diagnose and
    troubleshoot playback issues."

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/software/v7/v7faq.aspx?section=CODECS&qu...S1#NAME_CODECS

    Is your system functioning normally otherwise?

    No, no codec packs. I know the evils of codecs packs. :c)

    No other software as far as conflicting/problematic programs. I've been through that already too.

    I enabled through the ini files, I've got the "Advanced" tabs options set. But I can not use any existing AC3 files at all. Perhaps they have additional channels to the type you use. I'll have to have a look.

    Thanks.

  18. The Window Media Player trick seemed to be very interesting.

    I have the new version 9, I can read DVD's from my drive, but no VOBs files that are on my hard disk. So I am not able to "save" them in an order format, I cannot open them. Any advice ?

    I also tried version 9, which is installed on one of my other computers - which is running Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.

    Similar to what you discovered, I was unable to open the VOB using version 9.

    However, on the very same workstation, I also had an older version of Windows Media Player installed.

    I tried the older version - and it opened the VOB without any problem and I was able to save the VOB as an new file with a .MPG extension and it worked like a charm.
