    Friend has AOPEN 12X dvdrom, won't play any DVD-R discs of any type or content, any ideas.

    Some players, especially older ones won't play -R's or +R's. I have a Toshiba set top that won't play anything except commercial DVD's and a APEX that plays anything. I would assume PC DVD players are the same. You could do a search for upgrades, but with DVD player for PC's running about $40US, it's probably better to upgrade.
