OOh - may be a bit complicated if you're new to this. Give a little more info first and then you can get pointed in the right direction.

Is it a "ripped" DVD or have you authored a home video or download to DVD?

What format is the "film" in right now?

If it's a DVD already, does it include the Swedish subtitles already?
[Oh, I see now your title says your own subtitles.]

Well, if you post back I'm sure people here can help.
    There's no place like 127.0.0.1

Adding own subs to a dvd is VERY complex(selectable subtitles).

You can rip the dvd to a m2v(mpeg2 video) and ac3/dts file(using smartripper or dvddecrypter) and then reauthor with ifoedit and add new subtitles(use srt2sup to convert the subs to ifoedit format).

You can also use DVD Maestro, Sonic Scenarist and reauthor with the new subtitles.

You can also reconvert the DVD with subtitles in the picture and then author with any author tool.

You will lose he menus and extra material.

  6. Is there any way to add subtitles and retain the menus and extra material? If so, how?

    Thanx

Yep, using ifoedit and srt2sup. Check this topic over at doom9 for more info:
