I did some searches, but didnt find exactly what I was looking for..
Is there any way to rip ONLY the menu and the main movie?
I dont want the extra features on it, but just the movie and menu.
Any software do this?
I know dvdshrink will compress the extras to images to save room and dvd2one will rip only the movie.. but anyway to keep the menus (workable?)
Thanks!

How can the menus be workable when most of what the buttons
point to is gone ? -
I have never done it myself, but I assume that the buttons that go nowhere, simply dont do anything, whereas the buttons for scene selection work as nomal.

Thanks All.

what brand of standalone do you have jasond and is it fussy when playing DVD's with stuff removed?
where are you getting to get the demo from for IC8, as far as I know a demo ain't been released, you can only buy it and even then people ain't recieved them yet
I'll hold back on the IC8 comments for now until it's it's been shipped
does CloneDVD still playback the boring grey screen for the original playback time?
It remuxes the grey blank with original stream so it still wastes valuable space. A guesstimate would be about 5%-7% of the original video size minus audio is wasted so 2Gb of extras video will be 100MB/0.097G leaving 4.27Gb for rest of the DVD. It also uses a uniform reduction on the complete DVD last time I checked it out so quality for the main movie also suffers -
IC8 has been available for a few days now:
http://www.pinnaclesys.com/ProductPage_n.asp?Product_ID=1394&Langue_ID=7 -
it was available at the beginning of last week but I don't think anyone has recieved it yet
I'm pretty sure when people do recieve it they will post about it -
CloneDVD _does_ inclue a blank gray area, but for a very good reason.
If they DON'T, then any menus or anything that index INTO the removed title will crash the player or produce unexpected results.
And it's not 5-7% of the original, it's more like 1%. It's TINY.

are you really sure about the space it takes when it removes stuff?
the demo version I downloaded today (1.2.8.4) I just tried again, I removed everything apart from a 10MB file of the Simpsons DVD just to see what would come out
here are some of the results of the video without audio before and after
50MB extra was 7MB = 14%
69MB extra was 5MB = 7%
4105MB (movie) was 300MB = 7%
so that's why I just quoted those rough estimates above as it DOES waste space using this version if it is this the latest version
on average 1Gb of removed extras will be around 0.7Gb so you would be left with 4.30Gb for the rest of the DVD if this was the case. Menuedit/Ifoedit takes a few MB's if that so I've made my mind up about which method saves the most space when trimming the DVD
you are talking about elby's CloneDVD aren't you?. There is the other clone DVD here at http://www.clonedvd.net/ -
I'd simply rather not take the chance, thanks.
This is like our disagreement regarding Nero.
Your numbers may in fact be right, I haven't checked in a while. But I'd rather sacrifice the 70MB to grey screens than have some menu option farg up the movie, or have the player crap out halfway through the movie because there was some weird jump-point or something.

regarding DVD's you are both the chef and the taster, so you gotta eat your own sushi and if you ain't very careful your DVD will die instead -
Hi MackemX,
I have a DVP415U which seems to play everything I throw at it
Thanks for the suggestions all. -

jasond if you don't mind waiting (processing time) or buying the software, I suggest IC7. If IC8 isn't available yet, what's wrong with IC7 - u can always upgrade later. IC7 would be the easiest to do what you want
-
IC7 does NOT let you selectively remove titles and extras. IC8 does.
THAT is what's wrong with IC7.
- Gurm -
if anyone was going to get IC7 now, I'd suggest they wait for IC8 if they really want IC as it's bound to get more support and updates than IC7 will from now on
there was nothing wrong regarding title removal with IC7 seeing as Pinnacle never supported title removal in the first place, even if you could hack the registry
they never claimed it removed titles on the site and people may say well why was it there?, well my hunch is they disabled it because they knew it may have problems and rather than have people complaing about it they just turned disabled it
they probably knew fine well people would hack it and enable it but then who could they turn to when it didn't work?
and why would Pinnacle modify the program to completely remove the feature when their intention was to have it working in the first place? Maybe they hoped to enable it in a future update and who's to say it may still not happen
they support title removal in IC8, so they must have done something along the line to support the feature now
that's a lot of maybe's and probably's and that's as much as I'm saying -
if you want to keep movie and menu, you may be interested in a new DVD stripping tool that I'm co-developing (with the help of a mystery programmer who will remain anonymous until it's release
)
I will hopefully be releasing shortly so keep an eye out on the thread at Doom9

yeah I know all about DVDClone but personally use it for a few of reasons
it only goes down to title (PGC) level and uses a simple remux method as I have shown earlier
it replaces with a boring grey blank and it also playsback for the same amount of time
it's quality when compared 1:1 with other tools is debatable
I have created a tool (my chef) that does all the chopping for the user. The user just tells him what to remove from anything as large as a titleset to as little as a single cell
and then you can think of it as a takeaway as you can then eat it anywhere you want to process it instead of having to sit in the same old restaraunt
I do hope this tool proves to work for others like it does for me and it should help them -
But does it work with most DVD players? That's where the normal stripping of titles fail.
-
simple put yes it does!
the DVD structure is not compromised in anyway and failure to playback will probably be a result in the burning process or an incorrectly removed selection such as a language selection screen that plays before menu and is needed by the DVD (althought you could still remove it if you really want and manually bypass it anyway by simple modding the IFO)
I have tested this tool on a few problem DVD's that would take myself a a good while to strip using even the fastest known working methods and rebuilding it all. This tool does all that with a simple GUI and even goes right down to the cell removal level not just VOB ID's
The Matrix which we all know is a very complicated DVD was a breeze for me and I really butchered the DVD by removing all the warnings, logos, some extras and even some titles
This is how long it took to ceate a perfectly working backup onto a DVD that played back in 2 Sony standalones that I know are very fussy
17 mins to rip
5 mins to decide what to keep
1 minute process using the Tool
13 minutes to fix IFO's
out of the total time of just over 35 minutes, actual usertime was under 10 minutes as the rest is just processing so you can just watch it if you want
to find out more info about this tool and it's current features just check out the DVD Stripping tool in my sig
cheers
