  1. Hello people
Relative newbie so dont be too cruel.....

Getting a new PC with Pioneer 106 writer and am looking to make numerous copies of some DVD-R that I have ( would be DVD5 and not encrypted so should be easy).
Anybody got software recommendations for copying and burning. Basically I would like the finished burns to be ultra compatible with the widest variety of players possible. I dont mind whether the software for copying is seperate to the burning software, or whether the software is all in one.
Any opinions from the experienced greatly received.

  2. THen you would need an authoring drive & software= $$$

Just use something free like Nero it does 'dvd copy.'

  3. I had thoughts about using DVD2one and then Recordnowmax, I dont mind using Nero, just that Ive heard conflicting opinions on Nero burns being compatible with standalone players.

If you've already got a working DVD-R, you can use ANY PROGRAM to copy it to multiple DVD-R's.

Nero is fine for that purpose, just not for generating the first one.

Just put the discs in the drives, and hit "copy". No muss, no fuss, one click.

  5. Cheers for that Gurm
Which version of Nero do you recommend 5.5 or 6, does it matter?
Also how long will the burn take, the rom is 12x and I would be using 2x media, apologies for the no brainer question only Ive never recorded using a PC only a standalone, so Im hoping it will be a hell of a lot quicker than real time (which I gotten very tired of!!)

Home made DVD-R discs are all single layer whereas a commericial DVD release can be single or duel layer.

The easiest and most fool proof way of backing a back-up of a single layer DVD is to simply use DVD DECRYPTER.

This FREEWARE program will let you RIP the DVD to your HDD as a single large IMAGE file (i.e., filename.iso) then you simply BURN the IMAGE file back to a blank DVD-R or DVD+R etc.

No need for NERO or anything else.

Doesn't matter. If it's an existing DVD-R or DVD+R, there is no protection on it. No need for a ripper, decrypter, or anything else. You can just hit "copy disc" in whatever program you use for other purposes.

I personally do my duplication in RecordNow, but that's mostly because that's what I use to make my DVD's in the first place.

At any rate, a 2x burn takes a little over a half hour, regardless of the "length" of the movie on the media. A 1x burn takes about an hour, again regardless of the "length" of the movie. Real change from the set-top boxes, huh?

  12. I'll 2nd the vote for dvddecrypter. Since it is already a DVDR (dvd5), you can use any software to make another backup of the original DVDR, however, for a FREE one click solution (actually 2), dvddecrypter is the way to go.

I am sure nero came with your burner and it is what I use to make my dvd backup's, but dvddecrypter is very easy. All you do is click Iso image, rip to hard drvie and then burn the iso image back to a new dvdr. Of course with nero and other apps, you can do 1:1 copies (although I personally dont recommend doing that, i.e. original in one drive dvdr in the other).

Your choice, but my money is on dvddecrypter.

CAUTION: I opened mine from the bottom... and then after installing the drive, the discs would not stay in the tray because my burner was upside-down. I took it back to the store and they said there was no safe way to prevent the discs from falling out. They sold me another one that wasn't upside down. I don't think it was my fault that I mistakenly opened it from the bottom. I think they packaged it at the factory upside-down because the pictures and printing on the box was upside down, too.

I'm not sure which is more annoying. The utter Newbs (who refuse to read the stickies and guides) or the longtime users who INSIST on recommending a program that's overkill for the requested purpose.

He wants to copy a DVD-R (already burnt, no protection, 4.37GB) to ANOTHER DVD-R.

WHY IN ****'S NAME WOULD YOU HAVE HIM USE DVD SHRINK? WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY!?!?!?!?!?!!?

WHAT ******* PURPOSE WOULD IT POSSIBLY ******* SERVE TO RUN DVD SHRINK OVER AN ALREADY-BURNT DVD-R?

Seriously people. DVD Decrypter is an excellent suggestion. DVD Shrink is NOT, for the purpose he's requested.

If those are the same people that keep suggesting some overkill program that's not what the poster asked for... then too bad.

    Otherwise... so sorry.
